Default twist grip senso failures

in prep for the Hoka Hey, I spent some time with a local H-D service manager discussing points of failure that I could service/replace road side. he mentioned they had seen a few total failures of the fly-by wire "twist grip sensors" were they just quit working and perhaps that would be an advisable item to take along.

that said I do not have an 08 parts catelog. my sccot is an 08 FLTR, non-heated grips, standard handle bars, and cruise.

I found another thread talking about two differnt part numbers available

https://www.hdforums.com/forum/touri...ip-sensor.html

some help on which part number would be helped.

If you would be replacing it on the road I would get 32310-08 that has the green connector. That way if you experienced a failure you could just pull the grip off, pull out the old sensor, unplug it from the green connector, and plug in the new one and reassemble. Could be a road side fix in 20 minutes or less...

32310-08 does not have a quick release connector (green connector) and would require you to pull the fairing to plug the opposite side in.

When a twist grip sensor fails, the bike goes into a limited performance mode. Mine failed around 35,000 miles and the only way I knew was the check engine light came on. There was a slight loss of performance but I am not sure I would have noticed if it wasn't for the light. The bike still ran full speed down the highway with out a problem.

The odds of a complete failure that would leave you on the side of the road are pretty slim. It has redundant features built in so that if one fails, the other still works in the limited performance mode. If it fails, you'll should still be able to ride it to the dealer to get a replacement.
