Default 09 SG Throttle problems.

My 09 Street Glide is throwing three codes; P1510, P2127 and P2138. A few times from a dead stop it will start off in "limp mode", and all I do is roll the throttle closed and right back on it and the problem is gone. But just about every time I blip the throttle for a down shift it is in limp mode. I just put 12" bars on and put a new twist sensor on, no change in problem. From all of the digging around I am finding the most common problem people are finding is from the connector on the throttle body. I am going to clean the contacts and use a little dielectric grease and see what that does.

My friend has a 07 Street Glide we were living the next day to ride to Ohio for a Bike Rally(last September). He called me the night before. He bike was throwing codes and in the limp mode. Which really coiuuld have scred up out trip.

I went over to his house afte finding the codes were tbw and limp mode. We just unplugged the connector behind the air cleaner, on and off about five times. Fix it for the whole trip, even got caught in Hurricane Lee on the way home. His bike had aroun 25 K then. It is his only transportation. Has not failed since. Maybe we were just lucky, but if you have the problem try it.

My thinking, Everything the dealer says he replaces to fix it, does not mean anything if remade the connection at that sensor in the process.

It's worth a try if you get stuck

This is the cheap easy fix. When I service a TBW bike I usually pull this plug and add a small amount of electrical grease to the pins for added insurance.

This happened to me last year 3 times in the same day. !st and last time i was on the down side of a bridge, could have been real bad. After the 3rd time it was fine for the rest of the day. Cleaned the pins and plug the best I could and then put dielectric grease on them.
Has been fine since. Living in a humid climate, and by the beach, increases the chance of this happening I believe.

Don't use dielectric grease, it's nonconductive.

Why would you want to use anything other than a nonconductive grease. Think about your statement and where this grease is being used.

Exclamation Fly By Wire- Limp mode

I have 2009 since new, had limp throttle show up one day on the road, unplugged carburetor plug, looked clean and replugged it. Trottle still in limp mode so turned motor off a few times with kill switch and throttle started working again. That was two years ago and no problem since.

I would not replace any parts, I'm guessing a paring problem, needed to be rebooted with the kill switch. I also would ask dealer about putting grease in the connector, unless it comes from factory with the same.

Feel insecure being vulnerable to a non-mechanical throttle.

That's the solution I have read about. Hope it works as well. My 2011 SG had the limp mode issue intermittently. Turn it off for a few, turn it on - all was good. Last time it went into limp mode it threw the codes.

I did thanks, why would one put a nonconductive grease on a connector one suspects does not have a good connection in the first place? Either there is a good connection or not. The best way to seal a low voltage connector is to use Plasti dip or Liquid tape "same thing for all intents and purposes". Leaving dielectric grease for the high voltage applications "plug wires".
Greasing connections can be a negative also. It attracts dirt & dust, gets everywhere if you touch it. Just throwing my 2Cs out.

I currently have the exact same issue/codes. I've replaced the throttle sensor, cleaned and greased pins on ECM, replaced sensor behind air cleaner and still nothing. Last night after a disappointing ride I decided to take off the fairing to expose all the major wiring. While tracing the wiring harness coming from the throttle sensor I found that the down stream connection was green and corroded. Haven't had the chance to clean it up yet but I am hoping this is the issue. Had a mechanic tell me my ECM was bad. I think that's bullshit.
