Ok so excuse my ignorance on this topic. But does the 2005 Road King use a key? I'm not new to motorcycles just somewhat to Harleys. I have ridden sport bikes and dirt bikes for over 10 years and I was a police moters officer for 2 years and rode a 2003 Road King which was fuel injected and had a key. I tried looking this up but couldn't find anything out. Thanks in advance. Oh and this is my first post on here.

Welcome to the forum...no HD is actually keyless. The key is used to lock the ignition switch. If you do not have it locked then it does not take a key to turn the ignition on.
Welcome!
There is a cover on the ignition switch handle that flips up for the keyed ignition switch lock - if this is unlocked the switch can be turned and the bike started. There is also a fork lock and the hard saddlebag locks that use the same key.
