I went from a '99 Electra-Glide Standard to an '04 Heritage and my new King vibrates more than either at idle. It smooths out quickly on the road and I love it.
Yesterday I took my first test ride on an '07 touring bike (RKC). I currently ride a '05 EGC. The first thing I noticed about the '07 was the vibration at idle...significant vibration compared to my '05-88". I asked the salesman(boy) if there were new motormounts on the '07's and all I got was a slack jawed blank stare! HOWEVER...I absolutely loved the tork of the new motor; it was "arm stretching". The "sounds" of the '07 are completely different from my '05...different...not better or worse. As far as 5th gear whine...how the hell does anyone hear the transmission at those speeds. Spoke to a friend last night who has a '05 RK and an '06 SG (he won it with 1 $20 raffle ticket) and he said he definately noticed the vibration of his late model '06 SG. All in all, I will be trading for an '07.
Rumor has it (and it is an ugly rumor), one of the probably many reasons they went with a six speed on the new motor was because the new motor vibrated more and they needed a way to bring down the vibration so they added a 6th gear.
Harley's press release on the new motor said that the motor should vibrate less because of lighter pistons and rods. So is this not the case, or do they vibrate less at speed and just a bit more at idle because of stiffer motor mounts? [sm=confused06.gif]
I don't think my 07 Ultra vibrates as much as my buddies 04 Classic but the coffee can full of rocks that you hear in 5th gear is a lot louder. http://bobbyhill.home.att.net
the 07s are using the same motor mounts that are replacing the bad 05 and 06 mounts. supposably this is why there is more vibration,. the new mounts are a thicker rubber built to last. i dont notice the vibes while riding, only at idle.
Ditto on that, vibration at idle is significant but I actually like it. I smooths out with any slight increase in throttle and is not noticeable at any driving speeds other than when you're going about 3MPH and pull the clutch in for a stop.
