Was down in Pueblo, CO last Friday and was just north of the Outpost HD store on the frontage road. Came up to a 15 mph left curve and saw that someone had dropped what looked like a 5 gallon bucket of used oil right in the middle of the curve!
Talk about pucker! Luckily, I kept it upright, but was totally careful for the next 75 miles, until that oil wore off the tires.
Someone mentioned train tracks earlier. Ideally you want to cross them at 90 degrees. Often that's impossible but I always maneuver to reduce the angle, especially if they're wet.
A big splash of Diesel fuel on the road will put ya down too!.......... Ask me how I know this.
Hell yes! it rains all the time here in Portland, and I swear every single city bus dribbles a stream of diesel behind it. Most of us avoid going near any bus routes while riding. Guess the gubment doesn't have to follow the rules they make for the rest of us. If it was a private rig, we'd be arrested, fined, and have to pay the cleanup costs.
Never had a problem with manhole covers but when i was younger i slipped on a paint stripe in the rain. lucky me i was only going 20ish around a corner. Alcohol worked for me, sorry about your bike. ride safe
