Glad you were able to get back on your feet. Haven't had any run-ins with manholes, but those snakes have bitten me a few times and caused a couple of swerves.
Glad Your alright, it could have a lot more serious. About 35 yrs ago I spent 6mo in the hosp. for a mishap like that. Sorry, that mishap was 44yrs ago, damn it sucks to get old.

Glad you are OK. People get hurt slipping in the shower too, but we all still do it. Don't let the scare get you down. The van in front of me swerved to avoid a huge groundhog in the road. The groundhog was alive and very well, until it turned and I ran over it center mass with both tires at 45 mph. I was fast enough to get my weight on the pegs and kept the bike up. Only damage was the pucker mark on my seat when I got home.
Glad you are okay and the bike can be fixed.. I had a run in with sand on the roads left over from winter but was able to save it...... lessons learned.
On slow back roads where there's no house's, traffic , ... I tend to ride a slalom course dodging whatever is in the street, like man hole covers, cracks, rocks, tar snakes, painted lines, trash ...
Good for my riding response practice, good for tires not to wear square ... fun for me.
Disclosure Warning - Please do not try this with others nearby !
NOTE: New tires are real slippery when BRAND NEW, till the (wax ?) wears off !
