Default First 'Big Trip' coming...

Well, This is why I bought a RK instead of a softail....

On friday, sept 1, I will be going from the St. Louis area to the Des Moines area. Probably not a big trip to some of you, but this will be my first solo trip over 70 miles. I am looking forwards to it, but I am still a tad nervous. I dont know if my butt will hold up that long. I figure on taking about 6 hours counting stops.

Any of you old pros have any tips for me.

Tim

Just ride it. Stop and rest when you get "monkey butt", walk around and stretch. Hydrate and take your time.

Cowracer,
Just check your Roadking's tire pressures and oil before leaving. Drink plenty of fluids, enjoy !

Put your wallet in your bags or jacket pocket. On my first long ride I sat on it and couldn't figure out why my right leg was killing me. If you see something interesting stop and look at it, thats part of the enjoyment of the ride.

Should be a blast!

All the preceeding info is excellent and I agree with all of it.

You may wanna consider having roadside assistance available (Road America) and make sure you have their number in your cell phone.
Don't "over pack" for your trip.
Get yourself some of the travel ziplock bags to compress your clothes. It really reduces the amount of space ya need.
Don't forget your rainsuit (just in case)
Start early to get some distance under your belt before it gets really HOT out
Take one of the HOG atlas's w/ya in case you need to loacte a dealership

Most important..... HAVE FUN!

Good idea on the atlas! I only plan on being there overnite, so I aint packing much more than a couple o' shirts and a spare pair of jeans.

Sunblock...Check! That new spray on stuff is great. No getting greasy stuff on your hands!

Motrin...check! (or at least Ibuprofin)

And I am leaving at the but-crack of dawn.

Thanks loads guys!
