Talking Home from 4400-mi. AZ RoadTrip

Got home yesterday afternoon from the RoadTrip I'd planned back in December. I satisfied my need to ride across Hoover Dam before the opportunity is gone for good later this year. We explored an interesting piece of old Route 66 west of Kingman and up to Oatman, before rolling into Scottsdale for a week at a golf resort.

From our basecamp in Scottsdale, we enjoyed some great rides to Sedona, a loop around the Superstition Mtns., Tombstone, the Mesa Marketplace, South Rim of the Gr.Canyon, etc. Ended up being a party of 6 riders; 4 of us 6 brothers, one nephew, and a friend. We had no bike issues, egos, or any negative stuff. For excitement, we got caught in a 40-mile sandstorm on Sunday, and a solid downpour from Hood River, OR all the way to home yesterday. All other weather was good to great.

I look silly as hell with my MAJOR "reverse raccoon", but it'll fade fast back up here under the perpetual gray skies. I'm not into "numerology", but found an amazing coincidence in that my total miles on my "B" Trip Meter is exactly the same as the last 4 of my home phone number; 4376. My '08 roadtrip was exactly 4200. Kinda weird.

Brother #2 bought the Ultra from me a week before we left on the trip. The only question now is whether I'm gonna get my '07 Road King back from bro #4...he is a long-time Harley-hater who's been having the time of his life for the last two weeks!

Hope you've all been enjoying some great rides; thanks for reading.

Patrick

That's what I'm thinking!! First trip in '08 was to ride the image of Hiway 163 into Monument Valley that had been haunting my brain for decades. This one was to ride over Hoover Dam before the opportunity is gone forever later this year. Not sure what the next itch to scratch will be...time will tell.

I had a very similiar experience just last year myself. 4600 miles from Ohio to Cal. Was on the very same old 66 going down to Oatman. Scared the bejeezus out of me...lol. Glad you back safe and hope you can post some pix.

Nice road trip! ............ Been over "The Dam" a couple of times myself. Every Harley should do it, at least once.

The new bridge going over the river might be quite a ride too. It's pretty high up there. I bet the wind will be down right scary at times up there. Sounds like you guys had a great ride.

Before I left the US, I rode solo from Detroit to Cal and back for fun. It rained, snowed, hot, windy, etc. As miserable as some of the days were, the worst day of the trip was the day it ended. Bike trips are just motivating.
Ride safe.

Sounds like a great trip and it ended with everyone safe, all the better. I am planning my trip out to the west coast on 7/5, 7K mi 21 days, can't wait to go. Did I mention, I love being retired?
