Butt ugly? Not hardly. The provide the classic motorcycle look. They make a motorcycle look like it's supposed to.
Yeah, the classic motorcycle look, is the look your friends give you as they wave goodbye to your flat tire sorry ***.
My spokes are history as of next Friday.

Ya know, it would seem there would be good used wheels out there from parted out bikes. I can't find 'em.
Any suggestions?
Hahaha, you young pups are showing your age. Once opon a time spokes was all we had on a bike. Alloy wheels? those were on 4-wheelers. Keep those tires properly inflated and you will rarely if ever have a flat.
This is the first bike I've had with spokes since the 70's and I have to admit I just don't like the idea of being stuck with a flat! I only have 1000 miles on the bike but I think I'll be looking for alloy wheels and a tubeless setup this spring. Plug and go is just too easy to do, and I would just hate to be stuck somewhere over a tire.
Don't you have to install the European tubes backwards? ;-).. guess I'm in the minority here.. nothing better looking to me than whitewall tires on spoke wheels, (course I do own a RKC). And , it sounds like i'll be sitting there watching you guys ride past me on the rode. oh well. I'll be looking good sitting there on the side of the road waiting for the tow truck.. and thats all that matters...well unless its raining! ;-) that would be my luck!
In the UK we w=use a product called punctureseal (www.punctureseal.com). The beauty of this product is, you put it in BEFORE you get a puncture and it will seal it one does happen, its safe up to 150mph and its not a temporary fix as you do not have to change the tire at the earliest convenience. When I picked my RK in Savannah last Nov I brought a bottle across with me and filled my tires before riding down to Tampa. The other plus point is, it keeps the tire pressure up so better for wear and mpg :-)

I bought a 2011 RKC and changed to the 28 spoke mag wheels. I intend to keep the stock spokes for my personal options of changing back or include when I trade the bike up in the future.

Guess that is the kind of friends there are in NY. Around here a stranger will stop and help you get your bike home or at least to a major city. Friends, at least mine, will stay with you til help comes or go home, get a trailer and come back for you. After they bring back a couple of beers to tide you over til they get back w/ the trailer
There is a difference in tubes. The ones most commonly sold are "oriental", and when punctured will have a "star crack", with lines radiating out from the puncture. Most european tubes such as Michelin or Metzler have a different rubber compound. A puncture in these will not only lose air more slowly, but have a better chance of being temporarily taken care of with Fixaflat.
Boy .... you learn something new every day. Thanks for the info.
