Default Flat Tire Repair - Spoke Wheels

Is there a product for emergency flat repair for tires mounted on spoke wheels?

Never heard of one. Usually when a tube goes, it goes. In the case of a pinhole leak, I've heard people try a can of fix a flat, but don't know that it works too well. I just have double coverage between AAA and HOG roadside assitance and will use my cell phone to get out of trouble on any flats. Guess, that's the downside to us who run tubes.

The only one I know of is called a trailer....

Wifey had a Hertiage w/spokes... never again for me! Gotta be able to take care of myself when I need to & I can't see patching or replacing a tube on the side of the road.

Me too. Love the timeless look of the laced wheels, but it comes at a price. I just can't imagine pulling off a wheel on a dresser along side a busy roadway to patch a tube. For one thing, you would have to get one end of the bike off the ground and level. Until somebody comes up with the ultimate painless tube repair kit, it's AAA/RV amd Road America for me too.

Well Guy's,
I can tell you first hand that the fix-a-flat has worked for me twice on spoked wheels with a tube. I have the new Radius Wheels from Harley. My first flat happened in Eugene, Oregon at 5:30 on a Saturday night. All the shops were closed so with no other choice as I was heading home early the next morning, I went to Schuck's Auto supply and got a can and pumped it in as per the directions. Of course disregarding the one direction NOT to use on motorcycles. When I got back to my hotel I parked the bike so the hole was at the bottom so if there was any residual compound floating around it would be at the bottom where the hole was, hoping that it might seal better. The next day I got up and it was still inflated so I packed up and headed out. I drove all the way from Eugene, OR to Abbotsford, BC on the tire with no problems. Of course it did help that I had a friend with me and he stayed behind me the whole way watching it. And this tire is mounted on the rear of my Road Glide and I had all my bags full of gear and my wife along for the trip. Lucky? Maybe....but it worked till I got it home. Had the tire fixed and a new tube and then 31 days later, while out for a local ride it happened again. Same friggin tire....now I was pissed. The same friend was with me so he headed out to get a can of the fix-a-flat.........it worked again but barely, as we could not get the whole contents of the can into the tire. The reason for this is when I had the last flat the only tube I could find in town was a cheap piece of crap offshore tube, I didn't want to wait for a Harley tube as the weather was nice, the stem had 2 flats machined opposite each other on it, why...I don't know and this in turn would not allow the plastic nut on the fix-a-flat filler tube to tighten on very well. So alot of compound was lost and so was the pressure I needed. We did manage to get some in and a fellow who lived in the neighborhood had a pump he let us use. I will never buy one of those cheap offshore tubes again no matter what.
And just to finish off the story.....2 days after getting that fixed....my wife goes outside and the tire on my truck was now flat, nail in it......that cost me 4 new tires as we found out some cords were poking out on the inside of the tire once the tire was off the truck. I hate Goodyear tires. Sorry for the long winded story.

Later, Kasper.

There is a difference in tubes. The ones most commonly sold are "oriental", and when punctured will have a "star crack", with lines radiating out from the puncture. Most european tubes such as Michelin or Metzler have a different rubber compound. A puncture in these will not only lose air more slowly, but have a better chance of being temporarily taken care of with Fixaflat.

Why do the laced wheels have to have a tube versus the non-laced wheels?

The rims aren't solid to keep the air in.

Lace wheels suck on big heavy bikes, Alloy wheels, get a nail, plug and pump, on the road in 5 or 10 minutes, lace wheel, call a wrecker/trailer and wait hours for them to get there if youre lucky and lots of time waisted time and money getting it taken off and fixed, whats funny is HD charge's you more for this outdated type wheel, they would have to pay me to take them. Plus to me they are but ugly compared to the alloys, just my 2cents
