Default Always Hot lead under fairing?

I'd like to wire my GPS to be always on, rather than switched with the ignition. I know the orange/white lead is switched - which lead would be always on?

TIA

why don't you just run it to the battery? I hooked up my zumo that way cause thats the way it called for in the installatoin instructions.

That's a good thought, Cass, but I'm using the fairing mount on the Limited and I'd like to keep all of the wiring contained in the fairing.

Mine wil probably be different because it was a police bike, but there was a harness of unused wires in the fairing that ran down under the seat by the batterey. I just used those to run a constant hot to the stereo I installed.

Get out the 12 volt 'probe'. Mustr be a wire going to the ignition switch that is constant 'hot'. That would be pretty close to the fairing.
I don't have a reason to keep my GPS always on, so I piggy backed it to the cigarette lighter. If I want it to stay on, I just flick the swith to "AUX". Only takes 30 seconds for it to power up from the 'off' position.
But I can't think of any 'hot' wires in the fairing.

I have tried both ways (GPS switched on with ignition and wired directly to the battery). I prefer the "always on" approach. ks6c doesn't specify what year bike he has and that might affect whether or not there is an "always hot" wire in the fairing. If you attach the GPS to the battery, it doesn't matter what year or what kind of bike you have.

If you don't have one, spend a couple bucks and buy a tester. Hook one end to a good ground, and poke around under the faring till you get a light with ign. off. You could also run a single wire direct from battery. Chances are your gonna find an always hot lead at the ign. switch itself, tap a wire there.

One of the wires coming out of the radio is hot all the time. It keeps the radio and clock memory. Sorry, don't know the color. You'll have to probe it with a test light.
