Default From EVO to Limited

Just back from a week doing two-up turn and burn through West Virginia/Virginia/Skyline-Blue Ridge.

The Limited runs much better two-up than the EVO and the brakes are far superior. All the additions for my GIB makes her life much easier and comfortable. The bike turns much easier and holds line even under heavy braking. 15 years is huge!

Still, the EVO was stronger in the 35-50 mph range in the turns. I only had to use 4th gear. On the Limited it was 2nd and 3rd all the time.

The Limited excels at 70 mph with the cruise engaged: 46 mph! The EVO would have been in the high 30's at that speed and load. That to avoid rain and hail in Asheville - put the pointy end north and kicked it up a notch.

I went to my dealer today to see about getting the cat. removed, more air in and less back-pressure on the exhaust for more power. For all the 103 is, it seems like it isn't what it should be. He pretty much confirmed the cat. is costing me 20 ponies.

As soon as warranty is up I'm losing some excess baggage under the right foot peg and going to a 2 in one exhaust: not yet sure how to deal with the oxygen sensors, but will sort it out!

5,000 miles and can't wait to do it again in a month!

First congrats! Second -I assume you mean mpg. Third - why wait 2 years to upgrade?

Default You are correct

MPG not MPH is correct! Fingers must be out of practice typing after a week.

Basically waiting two years for warranty to be over and to recharge the funds! Always a balance between riding money and spending money on the ride: spending money riding always wins here!

I also figure to learn on someone else's nickel - not sure how to deal with the O2 sensors: both sides of the cat. Someone will have that sorted out by 2012.

Fair enough - I get the funds issue - but not so much the concern over warranty. My cat's in a box somewhere in my garage. Ended up replacing the head pipes with V&H.

The difference I experienced with a cam change, pipes and a/c changed the bike so much I can barely imagine riding stock for 2 years. Regardless, enjoy. You picked a great bike.

Donated my 1995 EVO to a charity @ 85,000 miles. Bought the 2010 FLHTK in March: waited 4 months for delivery.

Replacing the exhaust will not affect your warranty. A D&D Fatcat will do wonders on that bike.

GIB (as modified) = girl in back. Originally guy in back before women were allowed to fly.

Priorities in spending money on riding or on the ride aside, I'm thinking about the replacing whole system from the jugs back - my concern is how the computer will react when/if the O2 sensors and cat. are eliminated.

The cat. is the huge restriction: I'm told I could drop the mufflers and see no increase in performance as the cat. so restricts the system.

The whole system is new to H-D, so I'm thinking some time to learn on someone else's nickel. I have seem what problematic O2 sensors do to automotive engines (I volunteer at a free automotive Clinic for single parents these days) and don't want to screw up my last ride! I also know what a plugged cat. does to a car, so know the Cats. days are numbered!

The Limited runs great currently and now that I have time to ride - volunteers can come and go at their wish - I'm planning on seeing just how many miles I can run on this bike until I have to go to a Mystery Designs kit when I can't hold it upright anymore. Then I'm planning on riding it year-round until I can't drive anymore. Hopefully that day is well out into the future.

The key is to not be the tip of the sword, but well back on the blade where it is less likely to break. I turn my own wrenches, so will be doing this work myself when the time comes.
