Default critical fasteners....

I just posted that my left grip slipped off while riding and it got me to thinking....anyone take their bike in to the dealer just to have the critical fasteners checked? Is this a good idea for me since I bought the bike used? Also, what is the process of the dealer checking the fasteners...does it include wheels? Not to be too paranoid now, but, don't want those to fall off too!

Why not get the service manual, get an inch pound and a foot pound torque wrench and check them yourself? Probably about the same if not cheaper.

Yeah, maybe I will...I have been wanting to get that manual and now I think I will....things keep popping up where I could use it....I am liking being able to work on my bike, never really done it before but I feel "closer" to the bike when I do...if that doesn't sound wierd.

Use plenty of loc-tite as well. (Use red for bolts and blue for screws - generally)

Plan on spending a fair amount of time checking all the critical fasteners. This is a GOOD idea, I just finished for the 1000 mile break in and found some loose. The service manual was quite useful. This is also recommended at 10k, 20k, etc.

Where is the best place to get the service manual? I did very little service on my Goldwing; oil change, tires... that's about it.

Service manual is highly recommended especially if you're doing your own work. Lays out all that needs to be done to service your scoot.
