A buddy picked up a GuardDawg for cheap. It's a proximity unit just like the HD model but cost him around $60-$70. If I recall he said he could hook it up to either the horn or a siren. Must work OK 'cause he still has his bike.

Security systems deter theft as well as immigration laws deter illegals.

You guys have made some really good points: security keeps honest people honest and if a thief wants anyones ride bad enough he/they will have the means to take it....thanks for the replys.

Actually with the silent mode on my ThunderPager that's more than enough time for me to load the first magazine and be on the scene to supervise!

I'm interested in a response to this too. I've got the HD security system on my Ultra, but no siren (lights just flash with FOB manual activation/deactivation). Where is the device that this siren would plug into and where would one mount the siren?

Thanks,

In congested metropolitan areas, such as where I am here in NYC, LoJack is a piece-of-****.

I had a Porsche stolen from an underground garage about 10 years ago. They targeted it - had it within all of 2 minutes. I didn't know it was gone until about 10 hours later (I saw the video tape). NYPD said LoJack is worthless is an area where there is so much metal (bridges, ports, containers, etc...). I put about $40,000 in upgrades that summer, before labor. One of the fastest and best set-up Porsches in America. It's in either Russia or South America.

I got a full refund from LoJack.

The security system provided by HD is just for your peace of mind. If you do not set a pin anyone can disable your system. Just punch the turn signals according to manual. If a pro thief wants your bike they will get it. Heck they use skate boards and just roll it down the road to a waiting van or truck. I had one on my 07 FLHTC and the batt. went dead try to find a new one on Sunday out in the country no luck. When I ordered my 09 I told then to leave it off and used the money for other things. I now snap a set of hand cuffs thru the disk and people stay away from it. Most think a LEO owns it. Best security system I have ever had.

This works well when your at home..... Not so well at the mall, movie theater, loud bar/crowds, hotels, underground or multilevel parking lots, etc. etc. A GPS enabled cellphone tucked into the seat, backrest or other hidden location and wired to to charge up eveytime you ride, will let you know real quick anywhere your bike is. Check with your local cellphone carrier for pricing.

More info on tracking by GPS/Cellphone. MUCH better than LoJack.

I did the RadioShack siren on my 2008 Night Train I had. It had the security, but didn't have the siren. Here is the thread I used, I'm sure it's different for different makes, but it will give you an idea. It was a very simple install.
