My ultra has LOJack because the dealer had it installed along with junk like Zylon paint protectant just to raise his profit margin. First guy took the hit, I just made an offer. LoJack is useless outside of non-monitering areas or if police don't have the gear or give a damn. Alarm and Xena disc alarm with a cover work well to deter most b--terds.
The security system provided by HD is just for your peace of mind. If you do not set a pin anyone can disable your system. Just punch the turn signals according to manual. If a pro thief wants your bike they will get it. Heck they use skate boards and just roll it down the road to a waiting van or truck. I had one on my 07 FLHTC and the batt. went dead try to find a new one on Sunday out in the country no luck. When I ordered my 09 I told then to leave it off and used the money for other things. I now snap a set of hand cuffs thru the disk and people stay away from it. Most think a LEO owns it. Best security system I have ever had.
couple of things here, first it seems that there is not a consistent 'default' code for the security. some are delivered with 11111, the last 5 of the vin, 12121, and i'm sure there are others. and if you don't change it to your own custom setting as soon as you get home (or even before you leave the dealer), well, won't comment on that.
second, if the battery goes dead in the fob, its not a big deal. definitely not something that i would be busting my *** trying to find 'out in the country'. use your code that you set and you're good to go.
is it the best system available? no, but it is a fine system. and like others have said, if a thief wants your bike, he is gonna get it.
i remember a thread on here about a guy who had his bike parked in front of his car in his garage and came home to find his bike gone.... never did hear how they got that one.
takes 5 secounds to pull out side cover - disconnet siren -- lift bike into Van.
if its chosen one -- its gone !! wheel lock makes it a little more difficult
