Oooooooow! I know what broken ribs (and a punched lung) are like, having been knocked off my bike doing about 65mph by a Taurus on I75 just north of Atlanta. Slow recovery, so take it easy. I remember having to sleep in one of my living room chairs for three months because I couldn't put any pressure on my back. It's been three years and if I turn my head around too far, it still feels like someone just stabbed me in the chest.
Oh, and avoid sneezing for the first couple of months. It's really, really, really painful.
Best wishes for a speedy recovery. I crashed my '06 Street Glide three weeks ago but it was nothing like as serious as your accident. The bike hit some gravel in stop-and-go traffic and fell to it's side. Even though I own a full-face helmet and chaps, I was riding that day with a 3/4 helmet and no chaps. At least I had a leather jacket on. My nose and chin scraped the asphalt, my knees and wrists got scraped pretty badly too. I fell on my right side and still have a bruise from my hip to my knee. Fortunately, though, it's just road rash and no breaks. If I needed a kick in the a$$ to be reminded to ALWAYS where a full-faced helmet, this was it.

Glad you're OK, Screaming Eagle. I understand why you feel like you should wear more protective gear but I am always fascinated by others who always push for helmets after any accident even when the helmetless rider survived with minor head abrasions or even non life threatening fractures. I always wonder what kind of neck injury might have resulted from the weight of the helmet.
sorry man, the stats are gonna prove you wrong every time on this one... helmet save way more lives... and the neck injury argument is a poor one as well... most likely he wouldn't have had the head abrasions and what sounds like a concussion (the black out makes it sound that way) if he had a lid on...
i'm not arguing with you about it, i often ride without a lid, but don't confuse facts with a personal choice
glad to hear you're ok though bud... and like the others, thanks for your service as well, from one 11B to another [sm=icon_cheers.gif]
Prayers for speedy and complete recovery, Don. And thanks for posting--I'll keep wearing the mesh/armor jacket in this Atlanta heat wave; and the helmet is a given in Georgia, but I wear it even in the "free to choose" states, as well.
Sorry to hear of the crash and glad you are on the mend. It's always good to be reminded how fast your life can change so we can all be a little more careful. Thankfully you weren't going fast and it sounds like you got some quality care.
I am joyfull that you will ride again but sad it happened. I applaud you for wanting to get back on and ride. A little of the dog that bit you one might say. May our father give you a spedy recovery.
