Owww, a shattered pelvis. Not good, dude. I think it's a good idea to share some of these experiences with each other here. There are a lot of road gremlins out there. We need to know about all of them.
Glad to hear you are okay! - -- yup --insurance should take care of the bike....sounds like your gonna pull out of this okay -- tee shirts and jeans are my favorite choice for casual goofing off --but mann when it comes to riding - --gear is on - -no matter what the others are doing!
Glad you're not a statistic, Don.
When I see riders wearing tee shirts and bee nee helmets (which in the summer is practically everyone)......all I can think is if that guy ever goes down....he aint never gonna be riding in that outfit again.
Been in a full face helmet and jacket since day one of riding several years ago. 90 degree heat in my Joe Rocket mesh w/armor breathes like a t-shirt. I'm never uncomfortable.
I'll never understand why folks ride in t-shirts.....or shorts.....when a 20 mph crash will shed your skin like a cheese grater....amazing.
Sorry about your accident, Don. Hopefully you've learned a valuable and lesson and will make a speedy recovery and be out on 2 wheels soon.
Mad the mistake "ONCE" wearing shorts (100 degree day) and got popped by a drunk driver. Road rash was worse than the broken bones, surgery and aching back. No helmet, no head injury. As for helmets ... let those who ride decide. When I worked an ER in San Diego while I was in the military, I saw many guys who lived 'cause they had helmets, who were better off dead.
Glad you're not a statistic, Don.

Sorry to hear about your crash. I too have worn a full face helmet, mesh jacket and mesh over pants w/ armor since day one. I am one of the very few Harley riders in Southern California that I see fully protected in the summer time. I am not going to take any chances just to look "cool". A mesh jacket gives great ventilation... that and add the fact the jacket has armor for my forearms, elbows, shoulders and back.. very nice piece of mind as I'm rollin down the road. Good luck to you in recovery and best wishes for a speedy and full recovery.
I totaled the white Heritage (to the left) on the last day of May this year and guess how I did it. Nice relaxing ride on a two lane road, entered a curve at 50 mph, hit gravel, and you know the rest. I missed "my" sign post by three feet and the first impact on pavement was the back of my head and my right shoulder. It broke my right collar bone and 4 ribs on the upper right side. After looking at the impact point on the back of my helmet, if I wasn't wearing it I might not be here today. It still gave me a concussion and the "dizzies" every time I got out of bed for at least a month.
All's better now and I'm on the Road King Classic below. However, there is not a joint in either shoulder area that still isn't a little stiff and achy in the mornings.
Hope you heal quickly and get your bike back soon!
Glad to know you made it through that ordeal. As far as motorcycle accidents go, things could have been far worse...so consider yourself lucky. Having been in a motorcycle accident that nearly took my life, I can tell you I am a huge proponent of riding with full protection. I'm one of the few guys I know who rides a Harley with a full face helmet. Always have....always will. Sorry to hear about the accident...I hope you recover quickly.
