Default FLHX Painted inner fairing

Well, I searched and didnt find what I am looking for, so here goes!

Looking to replace the fugly stock inner fairing with a color matched one. I see Harley sells one, but I am curious if they are the only ones. I also would like to delete the stock FLHX fairing mirror holes and put handlebar mirrors on...is there an option for this? From the HD site it does look like the electra and street glide fairing are listed as the same, so I guess I am assuming the color matched one does not have the fairing mirror option? I will prob order from Zanotti's since they are cheaper.

Also, for those that have had it installed, how many hours (or $$$) was it to do the job?

Thanks!

Believe the dealer rate book shows 3hrs for this job so just multiply by whatever your dealers' hourly rate is.

Time consuming but not difficult. Once past the ignition lock assembly it's just making sure everything goes back in the same way it came out.

If you can do that part yourself or with help at home, a local painter could probably paint it for around a $100 or less. They could also mold over the holes for you.

Painted inner fairings do show up here in the classifieds occasionally.

Mine is painted and it does make a big difference. Changed bars after having the inner painted so I'm stuck with the holes but found a way around them. Thinking of having it painted again but in a contrasting color. If I do I'll have them fill them in.

Personally don't know of anyone else that makes them but someone will surely chime in if they are available out there somewhere.

Oh yeah... the one from the factory comes without holes.

Dawg could chime in on this but I think you would want to use a Ultra Innerfairing. The only thing different is the mirror holes.

For a person doing the first time out allow a whole day. Get the manual and do a search on the board that indicates how to use a 1/4 flat screw driver for the ignition alignment. If you don't know what that is get the manual. Do your self a favor and do it during the daylight. Zanotti's or Chicago. You can also get a take off on ebay or here and save some time and money taking to a local painter.

Have fun it is agreat way getting to know your bike better.

Take care

Not to keep you from attempting this your self, here are pics of what it looks like after it was removed...
Got to have a manual and take lots of pic and label every connection. Mine goes back on tomorrow, should be fun.

BTW, I have 09 Ultra (no holes) faring that I would be happy to sell you but shipping from Chicago to CA would probaly be more expensive than someone local selling a inner. Dont buy the HD painted one, way too expensive. you should be able to pick up a take off for 100.00 and another 100-150 to have it painted.

Pick up an inner fairing from an Ultra or Electra Glide Classic and have it painted locally.

The stock fairing seems to have a slightly rough texture to it. It seems like it would not come out smoothly finished?

Did you guys just take it to an auto body pant shop?

Whoa. Thats a lot of shizz to figure out and get back together.

If you take pics as you tear it down, you know what gauge goes where and where the harnesses go. I'd label as I take it apart.

While you're there, do a speaker upgrade too!

This is exactly what you want to do. Don't make it harder then it is. I did mine about a year ago.

I actually bought mine off of ebay from a guy that was selling the HD OEM Painted Inner Fairing with cap, and I got it for $275 shipped. I replaced mine myself, took pictures along the way, and labled everything with tape. I'm glad I did, because I had to refer to the pictures a couple time on the reassembly.
