I have done all my own work on my bike, but never any engine work, outside of clutches and stuff. I would like to get a little more kick out of my stock 88" 05' RK Standard. I have been considering a cam, possibly a Kuryakyn, only because I have read alot of good stuff about them here. I was looking at the dyno chart provided for the TC-2. It looks like it has a nice power curve and good HP. Does anyone have any experience with cams who can steer me in the right direction? Will I realize a noteable improvement without doing a 95" or heads? Educate me....please. Thanks
Stock bore and cams? Been around a LONG time! I have a friend that put HD 203's in his 88 and a Fuel Tuner and it runs great......also has Stage 1 and some open slip-on mufflers. Ya don't have to have 95" to get that engine to wake up.
In the OLDEN days of yore, when we had "puny" 1340 cc Evolution engines with carburetors! we used to put a cam in those. Andrews or Crane. About all there was for manufacturers. I had a '94 Dyna low rider with an Andrews EV26, Python exhaust and a rejetted Kehin carb and it was scary fast.
Like Phil said, contact the cam manufacturers and ask for their recommendations on your application. It makes them money if you like it and tell people.
Mine are in transit along with the S&S kits. As soon as it all gets installed, I'll let ya know. Everything I've gleaned about them is GOOD for our heavy baggers....torque down low in the rpm range to mid range....right where we want it. ANdrews has a good description of the grinds on their site. Also had some excellent feedback from actual end users on this forum before I bought mine.

Andrews 26's are great cams for baggers. I've used them in a EG & RG that were both my personal rides. I've also used them in some other builds for buds.
Here are a couple dyno sheets with them. The first is mine w/95" flat-tops, BigBoyz heads, & D&D FatCat (SAE conversion, tuned & run w/ambient temp ~120+ degrees)
THe 2nd one is PipeDaddy's with 95" flat-tops, stock heads, and D&D 2 1/2" slip-ons with stock head pipes (STD conversion, tuned & run w/ambient temp 75 ~80 degrees))
That's the ticket, Phil! Look at the torque values..............go stump pullin'! It's gonna be fun on an 50 degree F day with some humidity. Engine will sing! I think my values will jump a bit after the removal of the 204's and chains. I know I'll have better throttle response.
Just for drill, I rode a friend's stock Ultra the other day and had forgotten what a stocker was like........a boring slug......sorry guys, but they are. My buddy rode my RG and was scared at first....but he got used to it........Grin City. I had a hard time getting him off of it.
What about all the post I see about how noisy the cams are? Is it really worth it, a few extra ponies for constant noise? Is that just for the gear cams?
