When the bike got painted this year I decided to add a fresh windshield. I was surprised to see most sold are acrylic. I could only find polycarbonate replacements from HD or in the Dennis Kirk catalog. I bought a shorter, tinted version for about $95.
Polycarbonate is an engineering material, also used in manufacturing bullet proof glass.

Replaced my electra glide windshield last month. I found a lot of acrylic ones offered as well. I went to the National Cycle website and found one made of polycarbonate to fit my older electra glide. The windshield is very well made, the fit was perfect and had the old style cutout for the headlight. Also like the fact that the windshield is adjustable up and down. This is good if you change seats. The polycarbonate is priced somewhat higher than the acrylics I was looking at earlier but I think the difference is well worth the money. In addition I had to buy the mounting kit which was another $25.

I replaced mine almost as soon as I bought the bike with a Clearview that was shorter with recurve. It worked real well as I could see over it and it still had enough lift with the recurve to get the air over my head, it also is such a superior produce to the Harley shield that it also got rid of all the shaking that almost makes you dizzy sometimes.
They make good shields, medium priced and are a little slow getting them out but worth the wait.
