'07 Idle Issues
Ok I have an 07 dyna which is out of warranty. Ive had this return to idle stalling for a while now, very intermittent and irritating also.
Ive cleaned the VSS and IAC, removed and checked the TPS, fitted an external breather with catch tank as I thought all the crap going into the intake was the problem messing up the IAC.Then found about TT410 and checked my TPS sensor volts which turned out to be only 0.47v.
I phoned the dealer and told him what was happening and what I had done, then that there was an ecu flash.I told him I had a PCV with autotune fitted ( dealers dont like PC)
and could he just flash with it fitted. To my surprise he said yes, no problem.
I even helped the tech at the dealers (he wasnt very knowledgable about fuel injection and nearly had a heart attack when he seen PCV and autotune under the seat.
Autotune uses the diagnostic port for power so all I had to do was unplug AT and plug in the HD digital technician.
He flashed the ECU from cal id 32900-07E to cal id 31856-08A he even printed out the sheet.
on the sheet it says "Non-Chargeable Calibration", I still had to pay for 0.5hrs labour.
it also says to use this cal on ECM no. 32852-08 or greater, 32534-05B or greater.
He then setup the TPS volts to 0.57v.
When I got home I connected the laptop for the PCV to reset the TPS and noticed that the IAC steps were low at 13 and you need Digital technician to adjust this, difficult to do as the autotune uses the diag port.
I just turned down the TPS sensor volts to 0.51v and the IAC steps are now 25 after warm up.
Bike is definately different, very smooth, sounds a little different as well.
No difference power wise.
Time will tell on the return to idle stalling.
Go to the dealer and tell them you just want the calibration upgrade flash, you dont need to take the PC off for him to run tests, why does he want to run tests ? At the end of the day you are the customer and he cant survive without them.
Regards,
Jeff
my bike would idle high and would stall when coming to a stop, with the bike off i removed air cleaner [ i have the se heavy breather ] opened the butterfly and put a rag in the throttle body then i gently sprayed the air idle sensor and the 1 thats recessed dont know what its called, removed rag waited a bit to let any cleaner dry up put it together fired it up and its been fine
I tried spraying while the bike was running, but no go. Stalled imediately! I ended up just giving it a good spray while the engine was off, sprayed the butterfly, and everything else with any deposits on it, and held the throttle open for a minute to let some of the spray evaporate. Then started her up. Once it burned the cleaner out (5 seconds or so), the idle smoothed and she purred like a kitten.
I took her for a two hour ride and it was like riding a new bike. No idle issues whatsoever. I didn't realize how bad it was running!
I'm hoping this will just be an annual thing. i'm really not looking forward to replacing the IAC.
FWIW, I'm firmly convinced the idle issues are directly attributed to the oil spray on the IAC, and possibly the SE A/C's location of the crank vent tubes (with 07's only).
My thoughts on why this is "mostly" an 07 issue:
The longer stroke on then new 96 causes more oil spray to be drawn up into the intake, then the 88's short stroke crank. The problem doesn't seem to show itself until you upgrade the A/C which I'm assuming changes the airflow enough over stock to cause the oil spray to affect the IAC by coating it in oil.
Since HD redesigned the intake in 08, moving the IAC to a different location, the problem seems to have been eliminated in the newer models.
These things to me are the common denominators and the reason for the 07 enigma.
Anyway those are my results and thought's - hope it helps......

I thought that it was the power commader V took it off and it was better but still acted up. I cleaned it up and it ran fine for a bit then started to act up again.
I asked Jamie at Fuelmoto and he said to replace the IAC. I think I'm going to do that and see if it stops.

The PCV should have nothing to do with these idle issues unless the fuel values at idle have been set outside the norm.

34412-07D: This is what has been in my bike since Sept. '08, and is the only version that enables EITMS.
32903-07E: The newest flash version, but EITMS will no longer work as it did with the above. I can live without it since it almost never activated on the road anyway.
My tech wasn't so high on the reflash fixing any idling difficulties as he suggested in his email the other day. He thinks my particular problem is the IAC motor. I cleaned my butterfly assembly with brake cleaner and sprayed some into the IAC orifice both while the bike was running and later while activating the kill switch with ignition switch on.
If this doesn't fix my problem the next step for me will probably be to replace the IAC motor, unless someone comes up with a magic bullet between now and then. It's not an expensive part ($44 MSRP, $29 from Zanotti's) and doesn't look difficult to replace.
BTW, the reflash was free at my dealer.
So far looks good more seat time will tell.
