Bike: 2007 Softail Custom, 12K miles, Stage I & pipes (no Power Commander, etc.). That's it.

Complaint: Bike has an intermittent high idle. Sometimes you can snap the throttle back to normal RPM, sometimes not.

Also, this is usually followed by a low idle/stalling condition which occurs while stopped at a red light with the clutch pulled in.

At this point, when it stalls, you have to start the bike with the throttle partially cracked, and manually keep it running by working the wick, or else it won't stay lit.

The bike always seems to run fine for about an hour, then it gets hot and the problems show up.

Even with these issues present, the bike runs fast & strong with no misfiring, pops, etc.

1) Yesterday: Disconnected both throttle & idle cables. There is absolutely no mechanical interference when working the throttle body manually, nice & smooth throughout the entire range.

Cables lubed up and adjusted properly. Again, nice & smooth.

Throttle body thoroughly cleaned and IAC replaced.

After all this, checked for codes and code 'P0374 crankshaft position sensor not detected, cannot synchronize' was present in historical status.

Cleared code, rode bike, problem persisted.

2) Today: Checked for codes, none present.

Replaced crankshaft position sensor, bike ran great for ~1 hour, then same problems occurred (intermittent high idle, followed by low idle/stalling at red lights.).

Checked for codes, none present.

What do you Folks suggest?
First, your tuner (TTS) has nothing to do with your problem, so let's move on. (I'm confident enough about that to make such a categorical statement.)

You've covered the IAC and CPS, so you now have one major suspect, a bad TPS (throttle-position sensor). If intermittent misfiring is something you've experienced I would put one more item on the major-suspect list, a fuel leak inside the tank. Changing the TPS would be my first suggestion regardless, even if intermittent misfiring is not part of the problem. The fuel-tank paraphernalia can get expensive, ~$250 in my case since I replaced everything except the fuel pump. I had the same symptoms, as well as an intermittent yet very infrequent misfire at cruise, and mine was caused by a faulty TPS. Another guy on HTT, who started a thread called Stumped and Stumped Pt. 2, located his misfiring problem as a fuel-system leak.

I changed the fuel-system components first and although I did have a leak it was not the cause of my problems. Replacing the TPS fixed it and it has been running perfectly for six weeks with not one hiccup or idle issue...knock on wood.

I have been experiencing the same annoying problems also. More often than not it was the low idol problem. Usually coming of a highway run and stall at a stop. But now I’ve read about the fast idol to, which has happen a few times not may, coasting into the garage. It would calm itself down after about 10 seconds. This subject is the main reason I joined this forum. From reading posts on this…and I want to thank everyone for the advice, sprayed the IAC motor with cleaner and some crap came out. Cleaned the backing plate and wiped out the throat real good and re-charged the air filter…Time will tell if it helped.

I had the same symptoms on my 07 Deluxe. Bike sometimes stalled after coming off the highway or sustained speeds. I also cleaned the IAC but problem always came back. A mechanic at my HD shop convinced me to replace the IAC motor and the problem was solved. That also fixed the occasional high idle.

I've had problems with mine before low idle & stalling & high idle also this is a good link as to why this happens.

Well, I'm at three months now without the slightest burp, so I'm going on record as saying the problem with my bike all along was the TPS. I first noticed a single misfire in around March of 2009 which I attributed to a too-lean AFR at part-throttle, but I had no more misfires until about a year later. After that it would recur from every few days to going months at a time without any issue. Idle problems were also intermittent, mostly high just after starting when cold, but it would sputter and idle low at times toward the end of the ordeal when it was getting worse by the day. I changed the IAC in the summer of 2010, but although that seemed to help for a short time the idle issues continued. Before changing the TPS I changed-out all in-tank hoses, the fuel-pressure regulator, and the gas filter--but although I did have a leak at the regulator it didn't help any of my issues.

I'm not sure if this has been seen in this thread before, but this may shed some light on our problem.

It has been but in nearly every case the low/high idle has come down to one of
three problems:
TPS
IAC
Dirty IAC orifice.

It's funny how we derived this through our own experiences, when HD knew for quite some time.
Those 3 things are exactly what the SB covers.
