injectors. The wire was broken inside the plastic so you couldn't see it.
It was making partial contact so you couldn't see it and it wouldn't do it all
the time.

hey welsh,
my 2005 road king custom has been doing the same thing---for no apparent reason, the engine just pukes. i have had mine back to the shop 3 times and also contacted milwaukee for assistance. i get the same response everytime--we went over the whole bike and can't find anything wrong.
i am assuming yours is fuel injected, as well as mine. a friend told me the most likely problem is that there are no oxygen sensors and as such, the fuel injectors cannot adjust to conpensate temperature and barametric changes that differ from the conditions where the machine was originally set up. seemingly the 07's have O2 sensors
mine still isn't fixed because the scoot won't act up all the time and the "mechanics" (i would call them "parts changers") say it tripped no codes so they can't do anything. the last time it puked, it was really hot out, traffic was backed up and the machine started to run irregular and stumble. then it puked--2x. sounds like we share a similar problem.
big tom? how many miles on your scoot and when did this start to happen? mine has 4000 miles and is still under warranty. in my opinion, a warranty is worthless if one can't fix the problem.
a friend of mine was talking to his neighbor who is the vp of a huge parts supplier that provides manufacturers with parts in the event of a recall, and my friend casually asked if he knew anything about harleys. he said he knew harley was having problems with several fuel injected models engines cutting out. he went on to say the bigger issue was they did not know how to repair it.
he also said that harley's mechanical quality has dropped in the past several years but cosmetically they are beautiful (and they are!) harley hasn't received any fallout from the drop in mechanical quality due to their extremely loyal following. also consider how many more harleys are on the road. everybody and their brother has to have one so the factories are pumping them out as quickly as they can. don't get me wrong please, i really like my rk custom. it just frustrates me their inability to solve a problem that is a SERIOUS safety issue. big tom, you know how disconcerting it feels to be passing a tractor trailer at 65, hoping and praying your engine doesn't decide to "go stealth" at that moment.
harley needs to be made aware to this problem! i've called and ragged. more need to do it.
scout? nice photo gallery
