2001 was the last year for Magnetti Marelli fuel injection. Delphi started in 2002 on the Road King. I had the MM fuel injection on a 2001 RK, stage II, 95 cu. in. with a Power Commander II and never had any problems. However, it always seemed that accessories having anything to do with intake/fuel injection were always a little bit more expensive for MM bikes vs. Delphi .

FLHRCI-1998 Road King Classic,injected
If you wanted to go with an Evo motor, the latter years were getting pretty bullit proof. 1998 was an aniversary year(95th)which is what I have.Heard things about bearing issues in the first couple years of the TC's but you could jump up to a 2003 which is a 100th. annniversary. 95th.anniversary editions were the only year they numbered them.Made 3500 total and showed the number on the chrome lock cover over the handlebars.Look on here for bikes for sale or Ebay,Craigslist,cycletrader.com,etc. Good luck and let us know what you get.Any problems you may encounter, you can find a huge wealth of informed guys here that have "done it all" and are always eager to help somebody out.

FLHS!! last year for those was 1993 I believe. I had a 1992 FLHTCU and wanted a Road King really bad.Couldn't afford it at the time but the FLHS(sport)was ,to me ,the beginning of the Road King.I was going to strip my fairing off and try to locate all the sport pieces, headlight nacelle, etc but couldn't find everything I needed. If you found one of those,it would be a pretty cool restore....something to think about! I just did a Google image search of FLHS and found alot of pics.

I still own my 1983 FLHS. Shovel Head with a 4 speed and belt final drive.
Was told a while back from a dealer that this was an inspiration for the Road King.
I'm in the process of showing it some love with a complete make over this winter.

Funny how times change, but essentially the overall appearence stays the same.
Yep. And it was offered in olive drab.
