I have a 21 inch front wheel with a stock fender, he said I probably have a tire rubbing, and said it would be an easy fix. I'm taking the bike to him for my 5,000 mile service, and to adjust the fender. Anyone else ever have this sound coming from the front end? And did you discover the problem?
Got my bike back from the shop, mechanic made a small adjustment in the front fender to give a little more clearance for the tire. seemed to be pretty confident that was the problem. Wheel bearings were fine. So for now I guess I ride on and see if I hear it again. Bike rides great.

It's not the fender' You would here the noise a lot more if it was.

I'll bet it is gravel, stones, getting caught in the tread and all of a sudden
getting flung outward.
Happens once in a while to me too.
Don't worry about it, till it starts doing it a lot'

Just a question related to moving your fender. There is 4 bolts with not a whole lot of wiggle room, maybe 1/8" up or down. How exactly did they raise the fender? Maybe you can give some insight SOCALHD. Really would like to know.

That's a classic right there!!

Did they grease you muffler bearings?
Did they adjust your johnson rod?

Just when you think you've heard it all, just go to the local HD dealer and listen to the new BS they can dish out to keep the customer in the dark.

WOW guys; way to go, attacking the dealer. Let me see. Customer comes in with a chance to grease him for time and parts on wheel bearing replacement. Yet they do not do this. After all the customer has aftermarket wheels so he is gonna have to pay for this repair. Sounds to me like they were NOT out to get him, and did not just throw parts at it.
I do wonder what type adjustment they could have made to the front fender though. Sounds to me the customer is happy and the wheel bearings were not the problem. Glad to hear it.

The way the mechanic explained it to me was, drill the holes one size bigger to allow a slight tilt forward of the fender. That gave it enough clearance so the tire would'nt rub. There was wear on the inside of fender. And the slight tilt did not change the appearance.I have not heard that noise since, so it looks like problem solved.
