The front bearings on my '91 are still running strong at 139,000 miles, the rear bearings were replaced at 96,000 miles. both were cleaned and repact at every tire change. So now I have to worry about changing bearings like break pads?
Are the 91 bike adjustable or did you just pry out the seal, clean and repack them and tap the seal back in? My 04 are sealed but I have packed sealed bearings by using a small screw drive to carefully pull out the seal but only in a pinch till I got a new ones.

I was at nearly every tire change. The mechenic would take the bearings out ( not sure how, but I don't think w/a screwdriver). Then would swish them in a sollution. He would then look at them and roll'em around in his hands. Then he would put them in a gun of sorts and sqweeze grease back in and then would reinsert them in the wheel. then he would put a rubber seal over them.He also changed my front fork oil at every tire change ( I know, I know, it doesn't need it that often, but I insisted). The bike does have 139,000 miles on it though.
