I have an engine miss on my RK and I can’t figure out what’s causing it. I’m hoping one of the engine guru’s here can give me some advice.
It’s a slight miss but it’s very annoying and I can really feel it when I’m riding. The bike is a 2005. I changed the plugs and wires last weekend. I ran seafoam in the gas to clean the injectors. The bike has a PowerCommander and was dyno-tuned about 9 months ago. The bike ran fine until roughly 2 weeks ago. That’s when the miss started. I’m not sure what to do next. Could it be the coil or a sensor? Could there be a problem with the PowerCommander? I really don’t want to take the bike to the stealer to be looked at. Any ideas or suggestions as to what I can check next would be greatly appreciated.
Is it in the 2200-2400 rpm range? If so, I have the same issue. I have been told it is an issue with the PCIII. My Indy has played around w/ it, but cannot get it to go away. There are a lot of questions with this if you "google" it...I just learned to "live" with it as I am happy with the performance gain from it.
Make sure you have the latest firmware in the PCIII I think it is 2.2.5. If not download this then check performance if still does it then disconnect the PCIII and see if it still does it? Stealership will alway point to the PCIII whether it is the problem or not. that is why you need to verify for yourself whether it is the PCIII.
Have you tried bypassing the power commander to see if the symptom changes? The other thing I've heard is making sure the PCIII connector is seated firmly - and use dialectric grease. I'd get the Power Commander out of the equation since it's easy enough to do and go from there. Good luck!
how did the plugs look when you changed them? I had an '05 RK and the valve stem guide seals went bad very early on and were replaced by warranty. Sounds like the same symptoms. The plug(s) should have looked fouled, the guides "shink", allowing oil into the chamber.
