while you're in there - change out your tranny sprocket for a BDL lightweight one thats one tooth smaller. It will change your life!

I forgot to tell you that the only thing the manual doesn't tell you is to get a set of gloves when working anywhere around those cylinder fins. Those fins are sharp and when the bolts break loose, your hand could go flying into them and you might lose some skin. I learned the hard way with the intake manifold bolts. Now I put gloves on if I'm in the same room as the fins.

I had to replace the shifter shaft on my 89 and didn't have to remove the inner primary, so I ASSumed an 02 would be the same.
