Default Thinking about trading for a RKC

I have come to the realization that I am riding more than I imagined, which is a GOOD thing!!! I've been avg. 1,000 miles a month on my SE Fat boy and that's only riding on the weekends. That number would increase if I had a place to put my work gear and I'll ride to work. What I am finding out is I need storage. Yep... I thought I would be just fine without bags. Yes, I can add bags but they just do not flow right with this bike. SOOoooo.... I'm considering the RK Custom. I like the sleek and contemporary look.

Are there any out there that moved from a Fat Boy to RK? Can you give me your opinion on the ride difference? I plan on riding a demo next week as I have my eye on a limited edition with the H-D paint scheme and hard bags here at my local $tealer. The biggest difference or concern I have is going from 103" back to 88". I will definelty look at the stage 1 and possibly 2 depending on the cost. But first thing first... I went for a cruise today with friends... 205 miles round trip. Here in Florida, the weather is very funny. Sunny & hot and all of a sudden out of no where....Rain....down pours.

Anyway, just wanted to get a little insight from those who made the change and any suggestions, comments from the Forum.

OK Ty,

The RK is a much better bike for travel and storage but going down from a 103 to an 88 is going to hurt real bad. Like going from a Vet to a LeBaron.

The ride on both bikes is very smooth. The fatboy witht the counter balanced motor is really nice. The RK with rubber mounted motor shakes at idle but smooths out fine after around 2000 RPM.

Comfort factor goes hands down to the RK.

My thoughts...........Get the 103 kit installed before you every pick it up.

Yep...
That is one of the concerns as I know I will miss the 103. I had them to give me a price for the upgrades and they want 5K for the package. I think that's a bit much, however if I do pull the trigger, I will get the stage 1 done prior to pick up.

Too bad they do not make the SERK anymore.

BTW: Congrads on getting Ride of the month! Sweet looking SERG ...

Save yourself the aggrevation and get the SE Electric Glide. It has the storage and the power your used to and you'll not be sorry you did. I went from a stock EVO on my 92 softail and now have the 88 in my Ultra and I noticed the difference. The Stage II kit is going in this winter and that should do me for a while.

Good Luck.

Hmm...maybe part of the reason you're riding as much as you are is because that SE Fatboy is one helluva nice ride! I've seen them in dealerships, and wow!

I'm in agreement with everyone else here. If you go from a SE Fatboy to a stock Road King, you're going to be trading a lot of fun for a lot of comfort. Not to mention the styling. Luvmyflhtcui has the right idea: if you need a bagger, go with the SE Electra Glide. All the power and style you're used to, but with the comfort and convenience of a bagger. Either that, or get some nice hard saddlebags for your Fatboy. Harley's hard saddlebags don't look that bad on Softails, in my opinion.

I just recently got rid of a Softail Deluxe (aka Gussied Up Fatboy) for a Road King standard. My Softail had the only had the 95 inch kit on it, and not even half the shiny stuff your Screaming Eagle has. My impressions? Softail is a lot more fun for local riding. I had hard bags and a Tour Pak on mine, so I went grocery shopping with the thing. But my Road King is SOOOOO much more comfortable. Slower than the Softail, yes, since I've done 0% engine work; but it handles wonderfully and rides so smooth with the rubber-mounted engine and air shocks. I regret nothing, but if I were giving up a Screaming Eagle Fatboy...ooh, tough call, man!
