Went out (from Indianapolis) for a steak-n-cheese sandwich (in Louisiana) and didn't make it home for 6 days. Left at noon on Friday, and by noon on Saturday I was chowing down at "South of Philly" in Baton Rouge (Sherwood Forest area) Louisiana. Decided, rather than head north home afterward, to hit Big Easy for a night, and then see the Gulf - good thing the oil hadn't landed yet. Made it across Florida to St. Augustine and then up to Savanah GA before leaning to the left to get back home.
Trip Stats: 6 days, 11 separate states, crossed 13 state lines, saw two coast lines, and traveled 2,666 miles! (nice)
I'd say I've gotten the new bike broken in. It will be one year next month since purchase, and I've logged almost 6,200 miles.
I think it's time to shop for some mods. Or, maybe plan another trip.
Sounds like a great trip. That's what I love about riding - the trip. I also look for any reasion to extend my ride.
Last month I had the week off so headed out Monday for a ride from home and then decided that it would fun to drop in on my youngest kid for a visit. 2100 miles later I showed up at her work to say hi. We spent the next day together and I headed back Friday and arrived home on Monday. 7 days and 4200 miles. I would not even consider doing that in a car.
Man, what a great trip. I can't wait til me and my wife can get off for a week together. We'd like to go up through Arkansas into Missouri then across Tennessee into N Carolina, S Carolina to Georgia then back home.
I live about 20 minutes from where you had lunch in Baton Rouge. I've GOT to get over there and try it. Must be pretty good to come from Indianapolis to eat there.
I am getting ready to retire next month and plan on making a trip to Sturgis for the bike ralley. After that I am thinking about doing something of that nature up through Colorado at least someplace where it is cool.
