I seem to scrape the brackets quit a bit cause of the lowering kit, getting them worn down to a nice fine edge on the front side of the brackets. I just repaint the brackets over the winter.

IMHO, everyone should be comfortable scraping pipes and/or floor boards. The reason I feel this way is due to a conversation I had with an accident investigator. He told me that he had investigated many motorcycle accidents on curves and in only a very small fraction of the accidents - fatalities - there was any sign of scraping. The folks may have made the curve if they would had enough faith to lean their bike more in the turn. The gyroscopic force will do a pretty good job of keeping the bike from falling over.

I push hard on brakes to test traction when conditions are slick - same as we did in big trucks so there would be no surprises when you'd need them.
A man's gotta know his limits.

+ 1 thats because i am an old man.....however, i do scrape them regularly on my Yami Road Star. Used to it now, first time was interesting. they are lower and closer tothe ground than my Ultra Classic. Don't really think i would want to do it on that.

Default Man Up!

Slow speed manuvering WILL cause floor board scraping in the bigger cruisers! THIS IS A NORMAL BYPRODUCT OF SLOW SPEED MANUVERS! If you aren't leaning in the bike for the tighter, more confined turns, you aren't riding the bike properly.
I would recommend the Ride Like A Pro DVD to anyone who rides ANY bike. It really will open your eyes to how you should be riding your bike and will expand your abilities to handle your bike properly. It is mind bogeling to watch a 120 Lb. woman manuver a full cruiser with such agility and ease! It really opened my eyes to how much new technique I wanted to learn.

Interestingly enough, I find that the better I get, the less I scrape. I rarely touch down anymore in the keyhole, for instance. It's only when I make a mistake, and subsequently need to recover from the mistake, that I have to push to the point of scraping. Damn....someone set up some cones, let's play!
