Scrape quite a bit on tight twisties. Crap my pants too when I don't expect it. I usually hang off sport bike style when I'm serious, and it gives me a couple extra mph's in the corners, because it keeps the bike a little straighter before the scrape. My biggest fear is leaning off and scraping past the board onto the rear mount and unweaighting the bike, then sliding and/or high sideing. Wouldn't be pretty!
Of course when the wifes on board there are no antics, except by accident. Then I get the leg sgueeze or the head slap!

2 plus years on the Ultra and only a few scrapes on the streets.

One weekend in the parking lot of the Motorcycle Safety Course and I scraped them at least 20 times. I consider it a warning that thats far enough.

I've raised the floorboards on my Ultra to the highest setting to minimize scraping.

What they told us in police motorschool was that a rider should be at least familiar with the sound and feel of a scraping board so that when it happens they don't get shaken up and do something unwise like grab the front brakes or look down at the ground.

They said that while board scraping can be impressive in demonstrations or as an exposure tool to familiarize the rider with the feel, sound, reaction and lean angle, it's not something that should be done everyday on the street. There are just too many risks out there. All it takes is one mishap at slow speed. One of the training officers had to have a hip replaced because of a board scrape. He was out on patrol, made a u-turn on the street, and his inside floor board snagged one of those reflecting DOTs on the road. It threw him off the bike and broke his hip, and he wasn't even going very fast. All it takes is a divot or bump in the surface to catch that board.

Do I scrape my floorboards on the street? Yes, unintentionally, or in a controlled environment like a parking lot while practicing.

Hey, clean the grease off the kick stand mount and the cob webs out of the corner of the garage would ya!

I drag the Hell out of mine, my brackets look just like your so I had to go out and check my crash bar to see if it has ever touched down! Nope, not that far yet, but i did just raise and push the mounts forward so I can lean more!

Exactly!!!
you know you shouldn't do it, but then you do anyway.......

My footboards are pretty scraped up, but still functional. If I ever put some nice footboards on my bike, then I might start to be more careful. Meanwhile, it's a good excuse to keep the stock ones on.

Well when my foot jumps up and that grinding noise occurs you know you just about went far enough! I always did it on my Heritage but not so often on Ultra but I have. Wore edges of floor boards away on heritage. It definately is a wake up call!

being an old road racer. i get the boards down on just about every ride. right side boards i wearing on the mounting bracket that comes off the frame. left side is getting and the jiffy stand has been ground down to a pencil several times. i get new boards every spring and a new/used jiffy stand about every two years.

i think it turns my wife on when i do it cause i get the best sex after a good ride through the twistys with lots -o- grinding. or maybe she's just happy to have survived.

Ditto, foot tipped out and feeling for it. It can be a suprise when i dont do that.

I moved mine up in the mount to give me more room and I still scrape. There just isn’t enough lean angle. LOL
