Ordered the G4 Powerset today from revzilla. Looking forward to seeing how they work. Going to install them in two modular helmets.

I have found the Scala G4 works well but the sound quality is lacking. I found a clamp conversion that worked perfectly without having to tear into the original clamp body. Its actually a new cripper clamp that fits inside the helmet wall just like the original but has a 3.5 mm jack on the bottom. You can find them for around 25 dollars under Electronics on ebay. I searched ( Scala earbud clamp) and pulled it right up. Hope this helps out.

For what it's worth, I bought the Sena SMH10 for my son and I. I pair it with my cell phone that is loaded with my riding music. When a call comes in, it mutes the music and a push of the button, I can take the call. When the call ends, the music comes back on. I can also push a button on the unit, say a command to phone work, home or my wife's cell phone and it makes the call. Sorry, but in my line of work, I have to stay connected.
I use a full face helmet with the boom mike, he uses the mike on a wire attached to his FF helmet. He also uses a cable to attach to his Zune MP3 player. The sound quality is amazing.
We don't have any issues talking at highway speeds, but not sure how far apart we can go. We've been a ways from each other (maybe a 1000' or a little more) and didn't have any problems. We don't have to blow, then begin speaking. They seem to activate very quickly in the voice activate mode, so no chopped words.
I use a windshield and he doesn't, but wind noise has not been a problem, even at 80 MPH. No black electrical tape needed.
The battery life is exceptional. I've ridden over 10 hours listening to music without any problems. I charge it every night when I'm on the road and it's never died on me while riding.

Good luck! Whatever you get, I hope you're happy with it!

If your interested, I bought my Sena from Rocketmoto through ADVriders.com/forum. Do a search of Sena and you'll see that they will give a discount if you register. I am not sure what the price is now, so do your homework. I bought mine (Dual Set) 2 years ago.
Again, good luck!

I'm really curious how people are using the sena SMH10 and the Scala G4 with half helmets. I'd like to get a set that i can use with both my FF and my half helmet. How do you fit the ear pieces without the FF?

We've had the G4 powerset for a few months and so far it works very well. I had to tweak the vox sensitivity in the configuration application, and after we did that, we didn't have to yell at the mic to start a conversation, now we just speak a little louder than normal to initiate talking. Talking distance is good, no issues there, and it was indispensable when my wife's bike broke down on the freeway not long ago; she was behind me and was able to relay to me everything that was going while her bike was shutting down, I got behind her quickly, and was able to clear lanes for her so she could move safely to the shoulder while her bike was sputtering and dying.

Bluetooth and functionality works great with our phone calls and phone mp3 players. Music volume is great - sometimes louder than I want and find myself having to reduce the volume. Sound quality is ok, but still the best I've heard for in-helmet speakers... they could use more bass but everything sounds crisp and clear. Placement of speakers in the helmet is important - even a little adjustment can go a long way.

We use them with full face helmets, the package came with two mic booms; one flatter boom for full face, and one that's more round. I would like to be able to use it with my half helmet as well, but I don't have a place to put the speakers on that helmet... maybe I'll pick up a half helmet with the speaker pockets in the straps, I know I've seen some with speaker pockets built in - the softer backing for the speakers may even provide better bass.

The only thing I've noticed, is that with my Android phone, the music won't always resume playing after we finish talking. I have to press the A button to change the phone's music player from pause to play again. My wife's i-phone doesn't have that issue so I think it may be Android-compatible related, and hope they fix that with an update, but for now, I just need to press the pause/play button on the unit, so it's nothing major.

I just bought online the SMH10 and the additional clamp for ear buds. I'll see how that works. I'll try and find some speaker pockets as well.

Just my 2 cents. I spoke with the Cardo rep at Americade. They are coming out with a new set up that has interchangable mics. You can change from the boom mic to the soft cord mic for the full face helmets. Easy quick connect.

Can you tell what you did in the config? We are having trouble initiating conversation.

Thanks

I have the VOX feature enabled, and VOX sensitivity to High. Remember, it works better when there's bike noise around you, so testing at home when it's quiet is not a good test. Hope this helps.
