Default parade mode?

Got stuck in traffic the other day and felt like my right leg was going to catch on fire from the heat. Thought I would try out the parade mode option on my 09 FLHT, so I rolled the throttle up past zero and held it and nothing happened. Tried it a few times and got nothing each time. Am I missing something?

For the EITMS to kick-in, the head cylinder temp has to be >285F. Maybe the temp wasn't high enough?
Did you see the cruise control indicator light flash green when you rolled the throttle back for a few seconds? If it flashed yellow, the EITMS wasn't activated.

Didn't see any lights. Held it in place for quite a while to see if it'd kick on, but got nothing.

Flashing red cruise icon = EITMS off. Flashing green cruise icon = EITMS activated.

You're right, cruise is flashing red, not yellow if EITMS is deactivated. My bad.

You need to have the bike off with the ignition on and the run-stop switch to run. Then roll the throttle back and hold till the cruise light changes to green for on and red for off.

If I do this, then the parade mode will begin working when the engine gets too hot? Anything else I need to be aware of?

Just be ready for a whole different cadence to your exhaust sound when it goes into parade mode. You'll know it for sure.

We used to call that a "one-cylinder gas saver", when a car was running REALLY rough. Now it's called heat management.

I can toggle on and off while the bike is running.

You have to hold the throttle forward for at least 5 seconds.
