Default Replacing Road Glide inner fairing molding

Pulling my outer fairing off today to install a Sirius hardwire kit. Figure since I have it off I will go ahead and replace the inner fairing molding that has started to peel away and ooze gunk from under it. Have a few questions.

-I have read many people replacing the stock molding with automotive door edge molding. Is there any issues with doing this??? Does it still seal the outer and inner just fine??? Also is there different sizes to choose from and if so which is the best???

-After removing the stock molding there is obviously gonna be alot of gunk left over. What would be best for removing this without possibly damaging or discoloring the inner fairing.

Thanks

I tried using Goof-Off but it stained the plastic.Avoid using anything that has acetone in it!
I carefully scraped the goo off.
Mcmaster-carr has a wide selection of molding if you have time to wait.

Just use superglue to put it back on. No more issues.

Superglue doesnt sound like a very good solution to me. It will melt the plastic and make the molding permanent. Think I would have to come up with another solution.

I used super goof off liquid very carefully softening up the goo, then when it was all off I wiped down with denatured alcohol. Just keep it off the face of the fairing, you may try to rum a piece of painters masking tape along the edge before you start, that will keep you from getting it on the fairing if you dont have a steady hand.
Every time I get out in the desert where its hot the oem crap melts and the molding starts peeling away going down the road, tried tucking it back in and its ok in cold weather then in hot it comes right back off.
I bought new hd molding and used super glue sparingly about a dot every inch and on each end, its still removable this way. I use it on the w/s too and you can always get the molding off, just dont flood the molding with s.g.

and if you don't want to come back later and whine that the inner fairing is fading, paint it.
