Default Need shorter power cable for GPS

I've got a Garmin 765T GPS connected to my 08 Ultra. When the power cable is in the cigarette lighter, the design of the Garmin power cable makes the end of it (where the actual cable begins) rub against the gas tank when the bars are fully turned.

Anybody find a power cable that will work with this unit, that perhaps has a connector to the cigarette lighter that is either shorter, or has an "L" shape to it so there's no chance of rubbing on the gas tank?

My "google-fu" is not working so well today, so would like to know what everybody else is using to power off the cigarette lighter.

Are you using the power cable that has the traffic receiver built in to it?

I use a Powerlet.mounted on the bars. Purchased another adapter from Garmin and cut it to the length I wanted. Put the Powerlet connector on the end. Done.

I use a Garmin 760

If you have the traffic receiver plug, yes it's going to hit. I have a regular Garmin plug for my 1450 and it clears. If your not going to use the traffic function on the bike, just buy the regular Garmin plug or and aftermarket one off of e-bay.

The 765T has the ability to do traffic updates, but I never the updates to be all that accurate. You would think somebody would come up with a solution to smaller plug-ins, since even a car there is no reason to have a 4 inch plg sticking out.

As for the Powerlet, good idea, but looking for a much cheaper solution. Besides, don't have any interest in tearing the bike apart to get power to the Powerlet...maybe over the winter. Just looking for a different power cable, if one exists.

No need to tear the bike apart. Route the power cable below the console to the battery. Simple. As for the cost? Well, it aint cheap.

Yeah, but that two inches of visible wire would make me end up running the wire right down the road...good winter project perhaps.

If you are going straight to the battery, isn't the Powerlet hot all the time, even with the bike off? Notice any additional battery drain?

No. GPS is off so no drain. At home, I put my bike on a battery tender when not riding. Never had an issue on week long trips with drain either.

Thanks Ratkiller. I'll put that down for a future project to do then, and see what else I can come up with to get me through the rest of the riding season now.
