So where were all you guys running 80 when i rode from knoxville to memphis saturday. Had to pass a bunch of guys riding in the left lane several times. You don't like other riders passing you on the right, then get your slow *** out of the way! I was running about 80-85 with escort redline radar detector. I had to pass a number of vehicles on the right.
On friday we took rt 23 down to the Dragons tail, whick is 50 -55mph most of the way. Coming home sunday we took I-75 which is 70mph most of the way. I rode between 70 and 75 most of the way and my bike, a 2000 road king, ran about 3200 rpm and seemed like it was wound pretty tight. Is it safe to run 70-75 for a long period of time?
'05 95" FXSTD and '02 107" FLHT and run both 75mph-85mph. Engine RPM under 2500 is lugging and the TCs don't like lugging. These bikes will run 3000-3500rpms all day long; they like to spin.
Generally 5-9 mph over... but I use the GPS to realize that at highway sppeds I can get a couple over the indicated on my speedometer. With state budgets getting out of whack I suspect the traffic tickets will increase to generate revenue IMHO.
FYI - I don't know about other states, I suspect they are much the same, but any ticket a State Trooper writes in Arkansas, the fine goes to the county in which the citation was issued. The states gets like 2$ out of every ticket written in the State, by any department, which is part of the "court costs", but never any of the fine. (court costs are paid whether you go to court or not) By the way, Arkansas is on a tight budget. They have cut everything, including our cost of living raise this year. The only way we can help our budget is by writing more vehicle tag violations, DWIs and no insurance tickets. (state does get a cut of the fine on DWIs and no insurance tickets. Vehicle tag enforcement generates more revenue by increasing sales tax collection as well as license fees.) So no matter how broke we get, if you buy your tags and keep insurance on your vehicle, and avoid drinking and driving, you have nothing to worry about.
Typically run 70 - 80 depending on the road and conditions, but my 2007 UC has a 6-speed so at the low-end I'm running 25 - 27 hundred Rs, at 80 am pretty close to 3k.
