In the Road King Aftermarket Thread from a couple of weeks ago, the guy from Dead Center talks about a Nomad Thumb Control Kit for $350. I've googled it, but dont't seem to come up with anything.

Harley did not make the controls them self. The Radios and controls were made by suppliers that had won the contract to product for OEM use on the models produced by Harley.

The OEM radios and accessories used on Harley from 1986 to 2005 was Radio Sound. Repairs can still be performed under Warranty and outside Harley by them on their web site.

The Radios used on Harley models from 2006 and later are produced by Harman/Kardon. They produce audio products for a large variety of auto, marine and other companies. All new switches are available from Harley Only.

If your local Harley dealer can not find any OEM switches for the older radios, your best bet is eBay. But make sure they are looking on the Harley net at all dealers inventory for the parts you want.
The housings are still readily available from several aftermarket companies like J&P.

Wow . . . isn't that exactly what cuda's link post (#4) is all about? http://www.phatperformanceparts.com/...nics-nomad.htm

Yup biketronics makes the nomad kit and it works really well but only works for the sony radios. I too have been looking for another solution because I have a kenwood head unit now but haven't found one yet so I think it is going to have to be the factory setup.

I'm thinking I'd prefer the factory set up over the nomad. The nomad just tapes to the bottom of your controls and that just seems a little cheep. Any idea how hard it is to use the factory ones, and what all is required?

I have a Woody's fairing on the way, but haven't decided on a head unit yet. I'm also curious/undecided about thumb controls. For me, I'm wondering if their benefit really justifies the expense? Most times when I'm driving and listening to tunes, (if I screw around with anything) it's just the volume. I know, I know I likely have a whole bunch of stuff that I can't justify the expense, just wondering what the attraction is with thumb controls.
