It was about the first thing I did to my bike. It was a safety issue for me, not only due to my foot size, butalso because it wouldget hung on my pants leg when I put my foot down at stops. I figured that would be one heck of a bad accident, andI'm sure my ankle would be completely crushedif a 700 lb bike fell on it!
I first had the heel shift on my Heritage and intended to take it off but never got around to it. When I bought the '08 EGC, I decided to give it a try and now I love it. I guess if I had really big feet, I'd probably think otherwise.
This is the first bike I've owned with a heel shifter and after a couple of weeks of riding it I decided I liked it and wouldn't want to do without it now.
I took the heel shifter off my '02 UC a few months after I bought it. I picked up my '08 RG on Wednesday and could hardly wait to get home to take it off. The funny thing is, when I got home I was showing my wife a few things and noticed the heel shifter feel off sometime during the 120 mile ride home! I know it was on there for most of the ride because it was irritatingwith my heel sitting against it. I called my dealer and told him what happened and he is going to give me the shifter cap. I saved a few minutes removing the shifter and I'll get a free shifter cap.
I ride an Electra Glide and am new to Harley's forward foot position. Comewith a history of sport bikes and when leaving from a stop Iinstinctively lift my feet to a familiar position. Unfortunately thisis right on the rear shift lever. I'm tiring to get accustomed to the new foot position, however I am getting tired of unintentally shifting into second. Suffice it to say that the rear shift lever is on the endanger species list.Agree with others not much foot room for size 12's.
I ordered a Kuryakyn Heel Shift Eliminator yesterday for the new RG. I've never ridden a bike with a heel shifter and didn't really want to start now. Hard to teach old dogs new tricks. I'll have it installed before I ride home.
