Recently the engine light on my 06 RK (FLHPI) has been going on and off occasionally. I learned how to check the codes tonight and came up with P0118 - ET Sensor Voltage Open/High EFI and then gave me p/n 34309-06.
I bought the bike in March from the local HD dealer with 7300mi on the clock. I recently hit 10,000mi including a 700mi trip from PA to NY and back (when I started noticing the engine light).
Can someone direct me as to what this code might mean? What might need fixed or replaced? I can do the work so I'd rather not take it to a dealer, I just need some direction as to what it might be.
Oh, and it's 1:30am here so if you need more info from me I'll be back in the morning. Thanks to anyone that can help me, hopefully I'm not asking a stupid question. I've searched the forum and all I could find was the code name above.
You can do a search using PO118 and you will find other posts which may be helpful. You can also find a lot of information in HD's Electrical Diagnostic Manual (EDM) for your model year (and probably other model years since the Diagnostic Trouble Codes don't change much from year to year); ask your HD service dept. for a look at their copy of the EDM if you don't have access to a copy.
Thanks for your suggestions. I checked with a buddy and he said the code means there's an issue with the engine temperature sensor on the front head. Sure enough, I looked between the tank and front head and the sensor plug had worked itself loose and was completely unplugged. Luckily an easy fix this time.
