Default Throttle Hesitation

Just wondering if anyone else with fly-by-wire throttle and a SEST is having any throttle hesitation issues.

Usually occurs from a take-off from idle position and is sometimes made worse when the bike is hot. Have had it dyno tuned and the mechanic basically stated that the hesitation is caused by the computer sensor in the throttle by-wire system. Any thoughts or suggestions would be appreciated.

I'm almost ready to eat the cost of the SEST and have the stock map put back on the bike and go with a PCV.

In stock form the throttle "ramps" opens gradually. When you twist it wide open it'll go to the 60% range (or their about) then to the 80's then 100%. This can be adjusted with SEST, your tuner should know how to do it.

I have the SERT and think my throttle response was greatly improved after the tune. I hate to say it, but I think you need to find another shop and have them tune your bike.

Default Throttle Hesitation

I've had this problem since day one. I recently up graded my tuner to a TTS master tune. We increased the throttle progressivity to 100% from the stock 60%. This seemed to help initially but I still don't like what I have. The change made a great improvement after take off but the initial movement from stopped is always a balancing act , to much gas , not enough RPM's, not enough gas. The bike was re dyno'd after the master tune was installed and the throttle progressivity was changed but like I said it has really not gotten better from a standstill.

Nobody has a fix for this that I know of pcv or sert! Flyby set up will limit throttle position till 3000 rpm after this it will give the bike 100% throttle. I call it lag or Harley's governor. Not sure if its controled by the ECM or vacuum.

My stock '09 always had a hesitation from idle, when coasting off the throttle and opening it up again. I'm not talking about a WOT romp, and I don't think the OP is either. Its annoying, but nothing more. I wish the transition was smoother. Its almost like the throttle goes from closed to instantly open 10-15%. There is no in between.

At times its actually more than annoying especially if you're sitting at an intersection and try to take off and she goes flat for a second with no throttle. That can actually be very dangerous. I wonder if anyone's ever brought this to the attention of MOCO and asked if they will revisit the TBW issue. Thanks for your comments.

I have the TBW on my 2008 RG and no other modifications. I have not noticed any difference in the operation of the throttle from that of previous bikes with throttle cables.
