Sounds like you're more interested in calling attention to yourself than performance..

Save your $$ and drill out the stock pipes..

No kidding and apparently we have a bunch of old farts with holier than thou opinions/attitudes. I like boxer shorts and you may like tighty whiteys but I ain't gonna bust your chops. I asked the guy that inspects my bike if I will have to put the bafffles in before I get it inspected next time and he said just coast it in. I guess we should get the old farts approval before we have any mods made to our bikes, just to make sure it is okay with them.....

BITE ME!!!!!

I am a fan of my Samson true duals..... nice sound (to my ears anyways) and if you want to be obnoxious, they give you more tham ample opportunity!!!

According to Vance & Hines tech support the loudest exhaust they make for the touring bikes is the "Big Shot Duals". A buddy of mine has big shot longs on his softail deluxe and they are very loud. V&H said the big shot duals on the touring motors would be even louder.

I'll admit I am somewhat old 58 to be exact but I am curious as to why you would want to lose performance to the bike to make it obnoxsiously loud.

Fair enough. However, lets not forget we're riding Harleys. If I was really concerned about performance, there's a lot of other bikes that would fit the bill, and for a lot less. Riding a Harley is about the look, the sound, the feel. Shoot, I don't really have to explain that to you do I?

For most guys, performance comes somewhere after a comfy seat on the must-have list. So I'm not too worried about losing a couple of hp or few pounds of torque in order to get the sound I want. If we were all really concerned about performance, most of us would be running a 2-1 on our baggers. But many of us don't want to give up the look of dual pipes, or the sound of duals. So there's all kinds of performance concessions we make all the time.

It's the complaints about "obnoxiously" loud that tip me over a little. What's obnoxious to you might be music to me. (I like loud music, too)

My best friend rides a springer softail with Samson non-baffled fishtails. It's a carbureted Evo motor, and to me, it's got the classic Harley sound. Not quite the sound of a shovel, but close. And it's loud. I kid him sometimes about making him ride behind me, but in truth, it sounds so sweet to me that I'm happy to ride behind him.

Really want to thank everybody who gave good info! Sounds like the V&H True Duals are the way I should go. Just to make it CLEAR, the intentions for wanting loud pipes are...
1. SAFETY
2. LOVE FOR THE SOUND!

I could care LESS about getting attention! I capture enough peoples attention without my motorcycle I assure you.

And for those who are whining about loud pipes, Sell your flippin bike and buy a GOLDWING! OR A BMW!

thanks again for all the great info!

If you are going to buy a 2010 model, you will need to replace the header pipes to get rid of the cats. If you are going for as loud as you can get, thank goodness your not my riding partner. Loud pipes give all us a bad rap and create undue legislation. Think it over, please.

Another thing to consider will be the popping that comes with most injected bikes. I have the Black V&H Big Shot true duals on my 04 EG and they can be really load or not too bad depending on how you run them. I have had them completely open, with the baffles that come with them(like a cherry bomb off a car) or the quiet baffles which just have a deflection plate weld in the center of them. Quiet baffles are what I'm running now but I change it sometimes. Mine has the SERT and after a dozen tries I've accepted that I'm going to have decel pop no matter how they adjust it. If you get a set of these do yourself a favor and drill holes so you can change the baffles without removing the heatshields when you put them on.
