Yeah, two years from now when we are all required to run only stock exhaust because of the idiots, we'll all be hanging out in the garage cursing Fogg82 and all his buddies for f%^kin' up the system.
So I guess my choice is to not run them now, or run the risk of not being able to run them in the future?
Curse you fogg82 and all of your buddies
( I thought I'd get a jump on the cursing of fogg82 and all of his buddies)
Loud pipes give all us a bad rap and create undue legislation.
Gee, I might have come off in my earlier posts as one of the old farts. I AM AN OLD FART! But, I like the sound of my Harleys, my shovels with 2" drags and my RK with 2.25" Rush. LOUD PIPES DO NOT GIVE US ALL A BAD RAP AND CREATE UNDUE LEGISLATION! It is the idiots who have no common sense on when to make noise or not. Even my drags don't draw undue attention unless I really want them to. 36years, knock on wood, never even questioned about noise levels. It pisses me off that I may have to run stock pipes someday because some guy feels it necessary to see how much noise he can make in a crowded area, usually between buildings or some other place you can get a cool echo. Yeah, I love to hear it, it doesn't bother me, but I am not naive enough to believe others will put up with it for long. Ok, rant over, Frog out.
The Rush 2.25's are pretty loud if you want em to be, but have a nice mellow rumble when you don't. They make a 2.5 baffle, probably a little louder. Or you can take the baffle out. Never tried that so don't know what that sounds like. I've been real happy with my Rush slipons.
Well, I'm not looking to break any records or anything. Right now I have Vance and Hines Big Shots WITH the stock baffles in them now. I think 50% of the people I ride with have louder pipes than I do. But I want to alert people to my being there, and again, THATS WHAT HARLEY IS! if i wanted speed, I'll get a crotch rocket! You don't ride a harley for speed, you ride a harley for sound, comfort, and be part of a timeless American tradition!
I would run, Bassani Road Rage, ThunderHeader, FatCat, or true duals of some sort. I heard the Hard Krome T-Rex Duals were load as well as the V&H Big Radious!
My old bike had V&H Long Shots with 1/2 of the baffles cut out. IT WAS LOUD!! Most people would jump when it started. I just put a Rinehart 2 into 1 on my 09 and love the way it sounds, deep and throaty and reasonably quiet when just cruising but it will bark when you throttle it. With this exhaust I can sneak into the hood when it's late and not bother anyone, or if I go to a rally or bike night I can wail on it so everyone will know I have a small ***** and have to compensate somehow!!
Really want to thank everybody who gave good info! Sounds like the V&H True Duals are the way I should go. Just to make it CLEAR, the intentions for wanting loud pipes are...
1. SAFETY
2. LOVE FOR THE SOUND!
I could care LESS about getting attention! I capture enough peoples attention without my motorcycle I assure you.
And for those who are whining about loud pipes, Sell your flippin bike and buy a GOLDWING! OR A BMW!
thanks again for all the great info!
Whining about loud is for the birds. However, in your original post you did ask about an "obnoxious" exhaust. Not sure I'm old, but obnoxious is by definition "highly objectionable or offensive". i.e. worse than loud. Maybe that's the confusion. Do you want loud, or obnoxious? To me they are different.
Good suggestions thus far on options for loud, and obnoxious.
