Default Stalling on idle? WTF???

Here's the important-o info before I start my tale of woe-

'07 Ultra Classic 96 C.I. 17000 plus miles
true duals, with stock slip on mufflers
oil cooler (H.D.)
resisters in the O2 sensor wires (put on about 3000 miles ago- at Daytona)
Leyton fan cooler- new last Sat.
oil dip stick temp gauge
Full tank of Sunoco high test fuel from same place I always get gas
Amsoil 20-50 oil less than 2000 miles on oil
1500 miles on air filter, 1000 on spark plugs
Had the bike for less than a year, came off a Vulcan 1500, Last Harey was '78-900 cc 1967 kick start animal

Last night, I load up the the wife and head out for a ride to cool off and a ice cream stop.
It's warm here in Pa. high 90's.
Bike worked great on the way out, 45 mile ride out, mostly secondary roads, you could feel the heat off the tarmac as we motored along.
oil temp when we stopped 241
Ate ice cream, looked at the traffic passing headed back, maybe we were stopped an hour.
about 35 miles into the return trip, when I stopped at a stop light, it'd idle to under 500 rpm, then die.
Did this 3 times.
So next light I flicked into neutral, (prehaps the cutch is dragging??) same thing. (although it's adjusted good, wishful thinking).
Next few lights I had the fan on, neutral, I had to keep the throttle twisted to @ 1000 RPM to run.
Got home, shut it off, (oil temp 231)- went took off my riding gear, opened the door to the shed, (about 5 minutes off).
Fired it up and it was idling nice???
Let it idle a few minutes in the shed, flicked the throttle still idling.

2 weeks ago we were stuck in traffic outside Mystic Conn. it was like 75 degrees out, (maybe 20 degrees cooler than last night), the bike was HOT, after 4 hours of road work to get to the traffic jam. The oil temp was 245 in traffic, I could feel the heat of the engine, (hence the fan install). No idling problems
Last year were stuck in traffic also, 2 hours to do 3 miles, (no cooler or Amsoil oil nor fan back then), so it's never over heated or stalled to date.

If it were the first time we rode this scoot in the heat, I'd say it was vapor locking, but, I've had the engine hotter than this.
Any ideas??
Joe

could have been some crap on the idle air control motor. get the service manual to find out how to replace/clean it.

mine went south in the middle of nowhere. bike would hardly run. now i carrie a spare one at all times. for 48 dollars it my insurance policy.

I started a thread on '07 Idle Issues about two weeks ago that generated quite a bit of response, so you might want to read through it. This is a problem that apparently plagues more than a few '07 owners.

I was getting both fast- and slow-idle, mostly the former, and I tried everything from cleaning the IAC port to re-flashing the ECM, but nothing worked until I replaced the IAC motor. Because of the weather I haven't been able to ride it much since the replacement last Saturday, but I'm optimistic based on the few test rides I've given it since that time.

This would be my 1st place to look... Also, I am guessing that your spedometer is working OK.. If the Spedo goes south the Idle Air Control gets bad info and the bike will tend to stall when you come to a stop.. Since you didn't mention it as a problem I am gonna guess it is the IAC unit itself.

tanks!! I knew you guys would point me in the general direction!
I started to freak! I'm figurin' the coil pack, fuel pump, ecm, all the expensive things.
I knew this would happen!
I got the scoot last Aug. didn't buy one "frarkle" for it til this summer, then I went nuts when my income tax refund came in, saddle bag rails, tank cover, wood grain dash, the visors over all my lights, grips, new sneakers, oil cooler, fan.
Now that I dumped a pile of $$ into it, it starts to get cranky!
I'll try to clean the passage tonight with some carb cleaner.
So does the air passage block?? or the switch it's self go bad??
I did a quick read on the HD fix, but I'll go back and re read it whilist I have the bike in front of me.
I've been meaning to get a shop manual for it, (that's like the first thing I normally get for my bikes, a manual to see how it all goes together)!
I'll see if tha
they can order me a new AIS whilsit I'm at it and put it in.
I LOVE hitting the road with this bike, but if it's gonna be a "can I make it there" bike, that new trike is lookin better and better!
Joe
it doesn't take much for me to send a bike down the road for a new one!

The IAC can get dirty. Be sure to cycle it while spraying it. Hopefully yours is just dirty.

Well, I took the air cleaner assy off and sparyed the *** out of the AIS and throttle assy whilist it was running with carb cleaner.
As expected, it was idling away nice, the AIS port sucking air nice. All the while the bike was telling me it was SO sorry for stalling Wed. night, as it didn't know what got into it!
I WANTED to take it out and really see if it worked, but life being life, I only had 1/2 hour to play with it.
Prehaps tonight......................
Joe
I believe this all has to do with the times I was abducted by aliens, taken to thier space ship, and had weird things done to me, (It's the truth, just look on "U" tube, the bastards posted the vidoes there!)
Next thing I'd know, I'd wake up naked in a field with peanutbutter in my hair!

You've just found your problem. Your IAC motor is clogged with peanut butter.
