All I can say is wow!! To bring everyone up to speed, I have an 09 Ultra with about 15k miles on her. A couple of months back, I began to hear something far worse than the dreaded pinging of our beloved engines. I took her to the man (Gator HD) to get her checked out.
They called me back and said my cams were coming apart. Not having any stock cams in the shop, they offered me the upgrade to the SE 255 for about $40, the rest would covered under warranty. They said they'd give it the standard download and everything should be good to go. Of course I said go for it.
They fixed the bike, I picked it up and immediately noticed a great improvement in everything; torque, power, sound, it was as if I had a brand new bike. My only disappointment was when I really got on it, I heard pea gravel. Of course, it was detonation.
I took it back to the dealer. Long story short, they took for a run on the dino ... made some corrections and wow ... it feels like I got a whole new engine. The differences it made through every gear is unbelievable!!! I keep thinking it can't get any better but it does. They said they only performed a partial dino run. It this is only a partial, what the heck does a full dino run do? I'm dying to find out.
Great group of guys at Gator Harley Davidson, especially Brent, he really ensured I was taken care of. For what it's worth, I'm just an average guy without any type of extended warranty or connections, as a matter of fact, my warranty expires in Oct 2010. They saved me a ton of bucks and kept a customer.
A full dyno run will net you the last little bit of ridability and power that you have gotten with a partial dyno tune but cost 2 to 3 times more money as it takes a long time to do that, it's very tedious. Your choice on how best to spend your money.
You can't just slap a pair of cams in a bike with no other changes and expect it to run optimally. I don't know how they made "corrections" without a tuner, like SEST or a PCV, but maybe they can make minor changes (like ignition advance) on the Digital Technician. Even if so you probably still don't have an optimal tune, and you would might be well-advised to buy a tuner for the bike. For $300 you can buy a PCV from Fuel Moto and it will be loaded with a correct map for your bike, including the cams. There are other viable alternatives, too, like SEST--which is a tuner offered by HD, but it will likely require a dyno-tune to optimize, and the total cost will be much more. You can also dyno-tune a PCV if you wish.
BTW, you were very lucky to have been able to make the cam-upgrade for such a low price. You are even luckier that the defective cam(s) didn't damage something else while it/they were "coming apart," so IMO you are in very high cotton at this time! Congratulations.

He may very well have a tuner already or did I miss a memo? Just cause they put a download in it does that mean it doesn't have a tuner? I'm a little confused.

I was just wondering how they "made some corrections" without a tuner, but as you say the OP's bike may already have one. Since I don't think they have a download for a TC96 with SE255 cam-only change, they might've installed the Stage II download instead, which would probably be close.
When I installed my 255's I used the same timing tables as with the stock cams and had no detonation issues. In fact, I even added some advance in the cruise range, so I don't know why the OP had problems. OTOH his is an '09, which of course has a different stock ECM configuration.
