The shipping fee only, not the engine cost.....Ok, maybe I'm stretching it a tad but you get the picture......$42 to ship a light head pipe, come on....

$42 for shipping is highway robbery? Tell that to UPS, not to the seller.
I have a 2009 Touring header exhaust for sale and someone from TX asked me how much for shipping. I entered both zipcodes in UPS and I also entered 40lbs. UPS calculator returned 40 bucks for Ground Shipping.
I don't think you'll ship an engine for $40 unless it doesn't go very far and you have a business account.
I'm just saying.....

I would think the size of the box alone would be very expensive to ship. UPS doesn't like large boxes. Beware, I've shipped several things that they said it was the size of the box that ate me up.

I'm wrong here, I thought it was just a short head pipe but if it's the complete system, I guess $42 is about right for shipping with the long box.

I guess I was whining, and I am going to whine a little more. (just need a little cheese and crackers) Paypal is saying that they will refund the money to their account but it will be three to four days. It will be available for me to use then. If I want it back into my checking account it will be another three to four days after it shows up in my paypal account.

The seller never responded to my email, and I will give them negative feedback if I do not hear from them by tomorrow.

The shipping on larger or unusual boxes can eat you up quickly. I learned that the hard way when I quoted a shipping price to someone based upon weight and not upon the box dimensions. I ate the cost, but did the right thing. I have had an ebay account since 2002 and still have a perfect score. It has cost me some money to make sure that anyone that bought from me was taken care of, and yes that included sending a few things that I took a loss on, but that is part of the gamble when you place something on line with no reserve. Too bad not everyone will do the same thing.

I've also eaten the cost over run on shipping a number of times. As you said, it would be wrong to try and pass it on to the buyer. Maintaining a good reputation is far more important than a few dollars.

what was the item number? that way we can look at it....

it could be that they have a different kind of checkout and you messed up their bookkeeping by just sending them funds through paypal....

not saying that is what happened, but its a possibility.....
