i have a 2010 street glide with a stock head pipe and a s/e muffler.will a aftermarket head pipe reduce engine temp, and will it need tuning and how much will it effect fuel milage.
I don't know about the temperature reduction but you should have it tuned. These engine run somewhat lean. You should consider a fuel management system to cool it down a bit.
just put a 2/1 jackpot headpipe on a few days ago, Seems a bit cooler down by where the cat used to be, it's also alot louder now. Also running a SE Nightstick, may remove a few discs(to add back pressure/reduce sound) once I locate a security allen wrench to take it apart. Anyone know where to get one? Really don't need the tuning kit just the wrench, thanx.
Replacing the stock headpipe with the cat in it will not cool your engine. It will however cool down the right side where you are feeling all the heat. + 1 on getting some more fuel to the bike, that will cool the engine.

I have an 09, not a 10, so I didn't have a cat in the stock headers. I don't think true duals will lower engine temp but they'll definitely lower exhaust temp.
My stock headers were scorching hot on the right side and I decided to ditch them in favor of true duals. The difference is dramatic.
Now, there's true duals and true duals. I believe 2-1-2 headers will always be hotter than 2-2 headers because they still have a collector where the 2 head pipes merge and that's where the heat builds up. They might be better for performance but not for heat.
Engine temp can be lowered by running richer. That's the most effective way but obviously, more fuel in the mixture means lower gas mileage.
You can't have your cake and eat it.
thanks for all the replies i saw someone lookin o remove some discs from a s/e muffler.you can by a tamper proof allen or tork set from a good tool suppier
I know sears carries tamper proof sets. Think Home Depot also carries them
I am also running a SE night stick. Let me know how you make out with discs. I'm definatley looking to go louder but not sure on what set up yet. I only have 746 mi on her so I'm trying to decide prior to 1000 mi service because she'll have to be dyno tuned and don't want to tune it twice for nothing
