I bought my 07 RG and the dealer said..."oh, no need for us to re-map the bike if you put on different mufflers". Even if they put on Sream'n Eagles.
Well, now I have put on the reworked mufflers from B&E (mufflers only which are 06 Harley Mufflers with 2" baffle) and now the Dealer says "oh ya, we'll want to flash that for $150."
I just changed mufflers. No pipe or air cleaner changes done...........What the hell?
check your plugs, if they are light tan or grey, and its running good, forget it, if not, then its your call, but the new 07 updated efi system w/02 sensors is said to remap itself for a simple muffler change.
I know what a fouled "rich" plug looks like. What does a "lean" plug look like? I pulled mine with my stock mufflers and 700 miles and the plug was a light grey/white color. I thought that's what a "lean" plug looked like............
ANY changes to the system and you MUST change the map.....
It is a CLOSED LOOP, which means the ECM is monitoring BOTH ends of the process (Intake and Exhaust).......
The lack of backpressure will enhance a lean condition.....
The color of a plug anymore is irrelevant on a FI motor.......
I have tuned bikes that had a 13.8 AFR and the plugs were white as snow and very little residue.....
Those o2 sensors need to have the exh gas' in the pipes to monitor and adjust to a STOCHIOMETRIC value, which modifies the injector dwell and spark table....
Without the adequate backpressure, the sensors are doing triple time to keep up with the apparent need, and no more air to add to fuel, so it only adds a small amount of fuel...
Don't do a half-azzed job, do it right and apply the SEAC and SERT to get the muffs to sound like they are supposed to....
You are still pulling the same amount of air with the stock AC unit, and mufflers work on a principal of using MORE AIR to make their power and sound.....
All that being said. Should the exhaust pipes get cherry red under the heat shields? I mean glowing red enough to look like lights shinning on the chrome parts of the motor at night. http://bobbyhill.home.att.net
