For all those guys that have never had a problem with their HK radios and love them, I say good luck to you when you have no warranty and you have to pay $1500 for a new one. somehow it wont be all that great of a radio anymore when you can buy an after market with all the goodies for $700 less.
so when your bike stalls you buy a new one????....or do you get it fixed???
You have repair options.
A quick search on this sight will point you in the direction of Iron Cross Audio if you need a repair.
Mine hasn't went out yet but it does toggle modes every time I stop and start the bike...for example; I was listening to the cd before I shut the bike off, when I started it up again, It's in CB mode. On the same ride, listening to the cd, turned the bike off; came back ten minutes later, started the bike and now its in AUX mode( or FM or AM). On and on...It changes up every time....
This sounds like a wiring problem, not a radio problem. Have you checked all of the grounds?
Too many people blame the radio for problems with the wiring, headsets, antennas or just not operating the controls properly. I would check the most simple things before I would spend any money on replacing the radio. It is basically a computer and subject to inputs causing problems that look like the radio itself..
Does that "after market with all the goodies for $700 less" include the intercom, CB, etc?
No. If you get the Biketronics kit, all it does is let you control some of the radio options. There is NOT any other things it can do. No Intercom and to add the CB, you must buy another package. Plus you will now have a Plastic cover placed over your radio. You will need to be extra careful when you wash your bike and when it rains. (I know, some don't ride in the rain so you don't need to worry about that)
Well finally after 10 weeks i got my new refurbished radio. it works for now. I was at the marina yesterday and found a Sony marine sterio that lets you download your cd's into it for $ 300. with a set of 6.5 Sony speaker (marine grade) for $200. So for 5 bills i could Have a new sound system. Anyone interested in buying a new refurbished HK radio.
I have Harman Kardon in 2007 FLHTC. Stereo works but speakers go on and off at their own free will. Mostly right speaker. Have done diagnostics. Code reads SpkrA.
On my '09 Ultra, the left rear speaker has no sound and there is no michrophone function from the back seat.
My 2 year extended warranty is getting a work-out! LOL
I guess I should have gotten a 'classic' (no rear speaker or intercom...LOL)
