Default Tailbone A$$/ Hot!!

Here's my take on the sore a$$ thing. I have a 2004 RK-S and I find it's not the a$$ that gets sore; but my tailbone that starts hurting. I replaced my stock torture slab with a Mustang touring. I went from a 70 mile tailbone ache to 150 miles; just starting to ache tailbone. Note; Last trip before the Mustang seat I lowered my crusing pegs and that helped considerable. Maybe with a backrest I won't tend to slump and lean back so much on my tailbone ?? Anyone else have tailbone problems and not necessarily a$$ problems?? Anyway as far as the squirmy a$$ complaints go; I feel the exhaust cross over tube creates heat under the seat cavity causing the seat to get warm. This in turn makes your a$$ sweaty; uncomfortable; burning feeling. The more ya squirm the more " monkey butt" you get and the rest is history.
Also wondering from you guys that have them; do the RJ Originals[ no more burn thighs] trap even more heat under the seat area; causing more of a warm a$$?? Anybody try insulating the underseat cavity forward to reduce heat or ???

Stoping about every 100 miles makes the trip much nicer on the hind quarters.

Mark,

From what I read below, it seems that you are still using your stock seat? Have you tried other brands of seat? I remember it took me going through four different seats to finally found a comfortable one that fitted my posterior. And, always do a backrest! It helps alleviate that pressure to your tailbone. However, start with a seat that fits you first!

I had the same problem on my 04 Road King stock seat. It was like sitting on a 2x4 under the tailbone. I could do only 50 miles and had to stop. I bought a Sundowner and no more problems. I just did a 1,600 mile trip in 4 days. The next purchase is a rider backrest. The Sundowner seat is much better, in part because it is "dished out" at the tailbone.

mark,
before you spend a chunk of change chasing seats buy yourself a good size piece of sheepskin (don't buy the whole sheep, the neighbors will start talking) and trim to fit tour present seat. Picked mine up for about 40 bucks. You will find it is more comfortable, butt stays cooler and dry. not as hot when returning to the bike after a beverage stop. If you still think a different seat is needed you can still use the skin on the new one also. I agree with the others on the back rest, wouldnt' ride far without one.

As far as I can tell, the cop air ride seat has got to be the most comfortable seat ever put on a motorcyle.
